Things to do in Positano

coastal town built on a the side of a cliff with a harbor below

Strolling and Shopping

The town is a maze of narrow streets and alleyways, lined with colorful houses and shops. It's a great place to wander aimlessly and take in the sights and sounds. Take your time to wander, shop and absorb the local ambiance. From clothing to jewelry and artisanal ceramics, you'll find the perfect gifts.

Relax by the Sea

Time to soak up some coastal bliss! Positano has several beaches and some have more amenities than others. If you are looking for a beach with sunbeds, umbrellas, and restaurants, then Spiaggia Grande is a good option. If you are looking for a more secluded beach, then Laurito Beach is a good option. It’s important to note that the public beaches in Positano can get crowded, especially in the summer months - so if you are looking for a guaranteed spot on a sunbed, it is best to book in advance.

Beach clubs in Positano offer a variety of amenities, including sunbeds, umbrellas, food and drinks, and water sports. They can be a great way to relax and enjoy the beach without having to worry about anything. When choosing a beach club in Positano, it is important to consider your budget, your needs and your preferences. And if you've ever envisioned the quintessential Positano beach scene, Arienzo Beach is the embodiment of your dreams.

Hiking the Path of the Gods

Calling all hikers! It’s not a super challenging hike since its mostly downhill - so you can focus on soaking in the magnificent views.

Rent a Boat

If you want to escape the crowds and explore the Amalfi Coast at your own pace, renting a boat is a great way to do it. You can take your time and stop at any of the many beautiful beaches, coves and towns that you want to see. You can also go swimming, snorkeling, or diving in the clear waters off the coast. Plus - who doesn’t love a boat day?

Take a Day Trip

There are many beautiful towns along the Amalfi Coast, such as Amalfi, Ravello, and Sorrento. You can take a bus or boat to these towns and explore their historic centers, sample the local cuisine, and enjoy the stunning views. We used Wine Tour Amalfi Coast for a private day-long tour. They were amazing and had SO many options to fit your interests. We stopped in Amalfi, then went to Ravello, and ended up at a winery for a wine tasting and lunch. It was a great day.

Places to eat & drink in Positano

Food

La Tagliata: This restaurant offers a unique dining experience. Skip the menu – instead, enjoy a variety of delicious dishes and wine delivered right to your table. Come with an appetite, as portions are hearty, and be sure to book ahead for the little bus ride that adds to the experience.

Da Adolfo: An authentic seaside lunch serving a range of Mediterranean-inspired seafood dishes. You’ll need to take a boat taxi to this charming spot.

Casa Bottega: Casa Bottega is your go-to for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. With a variety of brunch options, this cozy café offers a warm atmosphere and great service.

Next 2: Under the same ownership as Casa Bottega, this restaurant is located in a small alleyway, and it has a charming and intimate atmosphere. The menu features traditional Italian dishes with a modern twist, and the ingredients are all fresh and local.

Il Capitano: On a cliff overlooking the Amalfi Coast, this restaurant offers breathtaking views and an elegant dining experience. It's a popular restaurant, so it is advisable to book a table in advance, especially during the summer months.

Chez Black: This restaurant is well-known but gets mixed reviews. Some people love the food and atmosphere, while others find it overpriced and touristy. If you are looking for a casual and relaxed meal with friends, Chez Black may be a good option. However, if you are looking for a high-quality dining experience, you may want to try one of the other restaurants in Positano. I personally find it overrated. I’d come here for a drink after the beach but wouldn’t plan to spend dinner here.

Drinks

Franco's Bar at La Sirenuse: This bar is located in the luxurious La Sirenuse hotel and has stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. Sip on expertly crafted cocktails while soaking in amazing views. Arrive early to snag a prime seat and avoid the crowds.

Music on the Rocks: This nightclub is located in a cave overlooking the sea. It’s open from late night until early morning and is a great place to dance the night away. The club has a dress code, and men are required to wear collared shirts and closed shoes. Admission is €25, which includes a drink.

Looking for a sweet treat instead? Positano is home to some of the best gelato in Italy. Here are three top-notch spots to indulge your sweet tooth:

La Gelateria Buca di Bacco: This family-run gelateria has been serving up delicious gelato since 1978. The flavors are all made fresh daily with the finest ingredients, and the staff is passionate about their craft. Be sure to try the signature stracciatella (whipped cream and chocolate chips) or the limoncello (lemon sorbet).

Collina Bakery: This bakery also makes gelato, and it is some of the best in town. The flavors are creative and unique, and the gelato is always perfectly creamy. Try the pistachio or the dark chocolate gelato.

Hotel Covo dei Saraceni: This hotel has a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. The gelato is made fresh daily and served with a side of limoncello. The views and the gelato are both unforgettable.
