Curator’s statement
My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in Portugal. The Algarve region was where we spent the remaining days of our vacation. We wanted to experience a slower pace, beautiful beaches, rich culture, and delicious food. Our stay in Carvoeiro checked the box for each of these things and was the perfect blend of quiet beauty, relaxation, and adventure.

Things to do in the Algarve, Portugal

Benagil Caves
Hiking the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is a must-do. This 7-mile in-and-out trek offers breathtaking views that highlight dramatic cliffs, arches, and caves with the beautiful blue ocean as a backdrop.
Enjoy a tour via kayak to the iconic Benagil Caves. Visiting by kayak allows you to go into the caves and experience this natural wonder up close. The scenery is truly picturesque.
A private tour to local vineyards is a perfect way to experience the true heart of the region and learn about the wine-making process. Algarve wines are gaining popularity and prestige. This is a lovely way to spend a leisurely afternoon.
The Tivoli Spa is a tranquil haven. My recommendation is to try the Tivoli Sea Essence massage for an immersive journey to melt away stress and leave your skin looking and feeling luxurious.

Baushi Sushi Bar
Restaurante O Cantinho is a favorite for traditional Portuguese food and a variety of seafood. The sardines are a must!
Restaurante Chef’s Kitchen Carvoeiro is a culinary lover’s delight. This restaurant infuses flavors from around the world through carefully crafted plates. The small plates are perfect for sharing.
Restaurante Villa Medici is the place to try for the best Italian cuisine in Carvoeiro. Homemade pastas, pizza, and a fabulous wine selection are accompanied by great service and a lovely ambiance. Check out the small statue of David!
Highly recommended Baushi Sushi Bar if you are looking for delicious, fresh sushi at a centrally located spot within town. Friendly service and good value for money.
For something sweet, a visit to Padaria Fabrica Velha bakery is a special treat. They offer a delicious assortment of pastries and desserts, including the famous pastel de nata (custard tart).
Need to know
Carvoeiro is a charming coastal village that is a great destination for families and couples alike. The beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs, and access to a variety of activities make it a perfect choice for a memorable getaway.
The Tivoli Carvoeiro Hotel provided a convenient location for exploring the town and within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. You can also pick up the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail from the edge of the property. The hotel has a cool rooftop bar to enjoy light bites, fun drinks, and take in the gorgeous scenery overlooking the ocean.
Renting a car is recommended if you wish to do any day trips or explore other coastal towns such as Lagos. Parking in and around Carvoeiro was relatively easy.
