Things to do in Greece

Viewing the Parthenon at the ancient Acropolis

Athens

Our time in Athens was a perfect blend of history, culture, and spontaneous discoveries. We loved wandering through the charming Plaka neighborhood, browsing local shops, and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.

Strolling through the Ancient Agora gave us a real sense of life in classical Athens, and we were thrilled to stumble upon the Changing of the Guard at Syntagma Square, a moment that felt both ceremonial and unexpected.

Visiting the Temple of Olympian Zeus was awe-inspiring, but the highlight was our guided day tour of the Acropolis and Parthenon—the incredible detail of the structures and the fact that they still stand proudly above the city after all these centuries left us speechless.

Athens truly is a city where history is alive around every corner.

Mykonos

Our time in Mykonos was pure sunshine and island charm. We wandered through the iconic whitewashed streets of Mykonos Town, stopping to admire the colorful doors, bougainvillea, and lively boutiques. Lots of shopping to be had with adorable boutiques. The windmills offered the perfect photo backdrop, and we loved watching the sunset over Little Venice while sipping cocktails by the water.

From relaxing on stunning beaches to enjoying fresh seafood at seaside tavernas, every moment felt effortlessly magical, making Mykonos a perfect mix of vibrant nightlife, scenic beauty, and quintessential Greek island charm.

Santorini

Our time in Santorini, especially in Oia, was pure magic. We loved strolling the narrow, winding streets, stopping to browse charming boutiques and pick up unique souvenirs. Watching the donkeys make their way up the hills added a touch of local character, while a visit to a winery let us savor the island’s famous volcanic wines amidst stunning views.

Every corner of Oia felt picture-perfect, from the whitewashed buildings and blue-domed churches to the breathtaking caldera sunsets—it was a dreamy mix of relaxation, culture, and indulgence.

Places to eat & drink in Greece

Daily catch at Ammoudi Fish Tavern

There are so many great places to eat in Greece—I had some of the freshest, most flavorful tomatoes I’ve ever tasted. Fried feta is to die for. And who can pass up delicious hummus?

Athens

  • A for Athens: Fun, low-key bar with incredible views of the Acropolis. It’s within walking distance of Plaka and great for a cool, young vibe. Great spot to catch a drink at the bar in the evening looking at the lit-up Acropolis.

  • Tudor Hall: Michelin 1-star fine-dining restaurant perched atop Hotel Grande Bretagne, offering refined Mediterranean cuisine paired with jaw-dropping, front-row views of the Acropolis. Serving refined Greek and Mediterranean cuisine.

  • Aleria: Elegant fine-dining restaurant in Athens known for its creative modern Greek tasting menus served in a beautifully restored neoclassical mansion.

  • Kuzina: Modern Greek cuisine with a view of the Acropolis. A stylish rooftop restaurant in Athens blending refined Greek cuisine with creative Mediterranean twists, all set against stunning views of the Acropolis. It’s a fantastic choice for an elevated dinner that feels both contemporary and distinctly local.

  • Thenasis Kabob: A beloved Monastiraki institution famous for its perfectly grilled kebabs and no-frills, authentic Greek flavors served in a lively, old-town setting. It’s the kind of casual spot where locals and visitors gather.

Mykonos

There are many great restaurants in Mykonos Town and Little Venice. If you’re looking for a restaurant with great views that turns into a chic nightclub, head over the Scorpios, a trendy spot combining dining with a lively beach club vibe. The sunset views can’t be beat.

Santorini

When visiting Santorini, the Ammoudi Fish Tavern can’t be beat for fresh-caught fish. You dine on the edge of the sea, giving you beautiful views and a lively atmosphere.

Need to know

Navigating the islands of Greece does require a bit of research.

Most islands have airports, but the Blue Star Ferry is also a reliable line for shorter distances. When planning a Greek vacation, it’s smart to visit islands within the same cluster. Greece is expansive and you don’t want to spend your time flying long distances, like from Mykonos in the Cyclades to Corfu in the Ionian Islands.

It’s best to work with an advisor who’s been there and knows the best groupings to make the most of your time there.
