Things to do in Savannah, GA
Ride the Dot: The dot is the free trolley that runs about every 20 minutes along the main streets of Savannah. Multiple stops and you should get to most places in the city center this way during the daytime hours.
Old Savannah Tours: Hop on-and-off trolley tours with historical figures acting as guides. I recommend doing this on your first day. This will help you plan out the rest of your days and know where you want to spend more time!
Forsyth Park: Check out the famous fountain or a local farmers market. I could pick up a local painting, a just-finished piece of jewelry and some candied pecans.
Explore River Street: Check out the candy store for fresh pralines! I also discovered Nine Line Apparel and Black Rifle coffee company and bought some Christmas Presents for my brother!
Savannah River Boat Cruise: The Narrated Harbor Cruise was very informative about the history of Savannah and the role the harbor played in current Savannah. Different cruise options available, including meals.
Walk Down Jones Street: If you’ve ever wondered where keeping up with the Jones originated…it might be here. It’s the prettiest street in Savannah.
Explore the 22+ Historic Squares: These squares are green spaces or mini-parks ideal to stop and rest and enjoy the shade. Many have a historical marker with information.
Warmsloe Historic Site: This is where the live-oak-lined avenue is that you see in so many pictures.
City Market (219 W. Bryan Street): A great place to explore shops, restaurants and art galleries.
Day trips:
Tybee Island: Located about 25 miles outside of Savannah, Tybee Island has a wonderful beach, historic lighthouse and marine science center. Take a dolphin tour (which we did!) or go sea-kayaking.
Places to eat & drink in Savannah, GA
Treat:
Leopold’s Ice cream: Handcrafted ice cream shop founded in 1919 and carried on today.
Brunch:
The Collins Quarter at Forsyth Park: Brunch in the park. The seasonal French toast was so yummy! (No reservations, first-come first served, but they do try to prioritize those with special needs)
B. Matthews Eatery: Biscuits and Gravy (vegetarian gravy is an option here!) Nice selection of sweet and savory options on the menu.
All meals:
Java Burrito: Burritos and Coffee, everything in one stop. Fresh ingredients and vegan options available.
Lunch/dinner:
The Pirate’s House: You can request a visit from a pirate during your meal (even if it is just two adults at your table). Buffet, or order off the menu. Serves Savannah’s famous (or is it infamous?) Chatham's Artillery Punch.
Crystal Beer Parlor: They have a good variety of items on the menu. The shrimp were fantastic…but I truly remember the peach cobbler. This place has amazing peach cobbler!
Treylor Park: PB&J Chicken Wings, Bacon, Egg & Cheese flatbread. Both items were so good! The food has a different spin that ends up with tasty results!
The Public Kitchen & Bar: Farm to Table in a casual environment — found the food very approachable.
The Cotton Exchange Tavern: A variety of food options, located right on River Street to sit and relax.
Drink:
The Alley Cat Lounge: (entrance is around back) Basement bar with craft cocktails. This place first comes, first-serve.
