Curator’s statement
I recently experienced Prague over a few magical winter days with 10 friends (and a few children in tow), wandering glowing Christmas markets, climbing to Prague Castle, ducking into historic beer halls, and warming up over rich, comforting Czech food made for cold weather and long conversations. The city blends grandeur and coziness. One moment you’re in a square that looks like a Gothic painting, the next you’re inside a centuries-old pub with a perfect beer. Prague’s Christmas markets aren’t just beautiful—they’re true bucket-list material worth the trip.

Things to do in Prague

Old Town Square Christmas Market
Wenceslas Square Christmas Market
Wenceslas feels like Christmas layered into real Prague life—locals moving through after work, grabbing food, meeting friends, the market woven into the rhythm of the city. It’s less fairy-tale postcard and more “this is what December actually feels like if you lived here.”
Old Town Square Christmas Market & Astronomical Clock
Old Town is pure cinematic magic—Gothic towers, the giant Christmas tree, the Astronomical Clock chiming while the whole square glows. It’s the market you picture when you imagine a European Christmas, and somehow it still feels breathtaking in person, especially after dark.
Private Christmas markets tour with a local
This is where the markets shift from beautiful to meaningful—learning why certain foods are eaten at Christmas, which stalls locals actually love, and hearing stories that make the whole experience feel personal and rooted in place.
Prague Castle
Walking up to Prague Castle in winter feels like stepping into a storybook—snow on rooftops, church bells, sweeping views over red roofs and the river. It’s one of those places that reminds you how much history and beauty can exist in one skyline.
Charles Bridge
Charles Bridge is about atmosphere more than checking a box—misty mornings with statues emerging from the fog, or nighttime when the city lights reflect off the river and everything feels quiet and timeless.
Places to eat & drink in Prague

Czech pilsner and traditional appetizers
Lokál Dlouhááá
This is Czech comfort food and beer culture done exactly right—lively, loud in the best way, and full of locals. It’s the kind of place where you understand why Czech beer is treated with near-religious respect. Perfect for a large group!
Loď Pivovar
Drinking fresh beer on a boat on the Vltava, with Prague Castle glowing above you, feels uniquely Prague. It’s casual, fun, and one of those experiences that feels both local and memorable at the same time.
Pivovar U Tří Růží
Tucked into Old Town but still feeling authentic, this brewery gives you a quieter, more intimate beer experience. It’s where you slow down, order another round, and settle into the rhythm of the city.
FAT CAT Old Town
A great reset when you want something fun and familiar between traditional meals—craft beer, great burgers, and an easy, energetic atmosphere. It’s lively without feeling like a chain or tourist trap. Highly accommodating without a reservation!
Restaurace Červený Jelen
Big, dramatic, and beautifully designed, but still rooted in Czech ingredients and tradition. Specializes in quality cuts of meat and traditional Czech food with a modern take.
Restaurace Tiskárna Národní
Classic Czech dishes done with care and quality—rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying after a long day of winter walking. Great wine list, specializes in pork knuckle. Takes online reservations.
U Kunstátů
A relaxed, cellar-style beer hall with great energy and excellent beer selection. It feels social, welcoming, and exactly the kind of place you end up staying longer than you planned. Lots of board games and card games for kids!

Pro tip: Go the week between Christmas and New Year's. Much less crowded. Some beer halls are cash only. By Prague Castle tickets online in advance.
