Curator’s statement
Dearest gentle reader, one finds oneself in quite the predicament during the Bridgerton hiatus. What is a devoted member of the Ton to do? This author humbly suggests using this time to book a summer journey to the United Kingdom, inspired by our beloved Bridgerton. The illustrious Bridgerton series has ignited a cultural phenomenon. The first two seasons beckoned many to the UK, hoping to encounter their own Simon or Anthony, immerse themselves in the refined world of the Regency era, or simply learn more about the enchanting period from 1811 to 1820. Season three provides splendid inspiration to book a visit to some of this author's cherished locations. Do forgive the occasional inclusion of locales that slightly deviate from the Regency timeline.

Day 1: Arrive in London
Arrive in London and take up residence at Brown’s Hotel, the oldest operating hotel in the city, which commenced operations in 1837, just after the Regency period. However, it is a worthy sojourn, following in the footsteps of notable figures from history. This blend of modern luxury and historical charm is a part of the distinguished Rocco Forte Hotels group.
In true Regency fashion, begin your adventure with a stroll through Mayfair to Hyde Park, taking a turn around the Serpentine. Return to Brown’s for Afternoon Tea in The Drawing Room, a setting favored by Queen Victoria herself. Delight in neat sandwiches, delicate pastries, scones, and tea, or perhaps a glass of English Sparkling wine.
Next, visit the Royal Academy of Arts at Burlington House. Established in 1768, the RA's Summer Exhibition has been a staple of England’s social scene since 1769. The 2024 Summer Exhibition runs from the 18th of June to the 18th of August. Tickets are required.
No visit to London would be complete without a visit to Fortnum & Mason, a legendary department store established in 1707. Stock up on sweets, teas, jams, and biscuits.
Return to your hotel for an early retirement, or for those feeling more adventurous, enjoy a nightcap at The Coach and Horses in Mayfair, established in 1744.
Day 2: Cultural Tour of London
For our North American friends, an early start is inevitable. After breakfast, enjoy a promenade through Green Park past Buckingham Palace, continuing to St James’ Park towards Whitehall.
Visit the National Gallery, celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. It houses masterpieces by Regency-era artists Turner and Constable. Entrance is free, though donations are welcome.
Lunch beckons at The Admiralty, followed by a visit to Hatchards, London’s oldest bookshop, established in 1797. Purchase a copy of Eloise’s favorite, Charlotte Bronte’s Emma, or attend one of their literary events, see schedule for details.
For the perfect finishing touch to your ensemble, visit Lock & Co. Hatters, established in 1676. Just like our Penelope, a suitable hat is essential for any wallflower ready to bloom.
Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through London, a romantic activity inspired by Polin!
For pre-theatre dinner, delight in seasonal produce and beautiful surroundings at The Petersham, Covent Garden.
End your evening at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, home to British ballet and opera for over 300 years.
Alternatively, and likely more bawdy, musical entertainment can be found in Vauxhall. Sadly, neither the hot air balloon nor the Royal Pleasure Gardens remain but the Royal Vauxhall Tavern continues to provide a fun night out and rumor has it, enjoys its own royal connection. Just the place if you are looking for LGBTQ+ friendly cabaret in an iconic and historic venue. Check schedule for events.
Day 3: Explore Greenwich
Begin your day with a scenic boat ride to Greenwich via the Uber Boat. Upon arrival, explore Maritime Greenwich, a UNESCO World Heritage site, including the Old Royal Naval College, the National Maritime Museum, and Queen’s House—all used as Bridgerton filming locations.
Satisfy your hunger at Greenwich Market or indulge in a treat from Dark Sugars Cocoa House.
After refreshments, enjoy the 17th century landscaped gardens of Greenwich Park and the breathtaking views of modern London from the Greenwich observatory. While there learn about the prime meridian.
Return to your hotel via boat.
Dinner at the elegant Spring restaurant, a dreamy, elegant modern restaurant in the grand, neo-classical Somerset House.
Day 4: Escape to the Country
Leave the bustling city for the tranquil countryside. Travel by private car to Gravetye Manor in Sussex, a manor built for love in 1598.
Enjoy a garden tour or a flower workshop, followed by a private lunch.
Take a picturesque walk through the Darent Valley in Kent, past lavender fields or bluebell woods, depending on the season.
Continue by car to Squerryes Court for a vineyard tour and English sparkling wine tasting. The house is a private home, but the Court Garden hosts special events throughout the summer—do check their schedule.
Day 5: Day of Leisure
Indulge in a day of leisure at Gravetye Manor; horse riding, shooting and spa treatments are all available. Alternatively, and depending on schedules, one could visit the Brighton Pavilion, attend an antique fair, enjoy racing at Goodwood or watch a polo match.
Conclude your sojourn with dinner in the Michelin-starred Dining Room at Gravetye Manor.
Need to know
Bridgerton was shot in many beautiful and historic locations in London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, Berkshire and Hertfordshire. This itinerary covers some locations in London, Sussex, Surrey and Kent but I’d be delighted to help plan a trip for any of the other locations or for a longer visit so you can be transported to the world of Bridgerton, where historical elegance is blended with modern indulgence.
Until we meet again, dearest readers, I remain, ever faithfully yours...
