Curator’s statement
Napa Valley is one of my favorite places to visit with my husband, who is WSET Level 2 certified. Over the years, we’ve curated a list of incredible wineries that offer truly special experiences. Unlike the crowded, tour bus-filled spots, my recommendations focus on intimate settings, high-quality wines, and personal touches that make each visit unforgettable. From farm-to-table cuisine to luxurious accommodations, Napa combines world-class wine and exceptional hospitality. The beautiful scenery enhances a relaxing destination that feels both indulgent and welcoming. For anyone who loves great wine and meaningful experiences, Napa is a place that never disappoints.

Things to do in Napa

Wine tasting: From producers with exceptional wines to exclusive, one-on-one tasting experiences for true wine enthusiasts, I can provide you with personal recommendations that go beyond this list to showcase the very best Napa has to offer.
Dining: Napa Valley is home to some of my favorite restaurants, where farm-to-table cuisine meets exceptional service.
Spa: Napa Valley is renowned for its luxurious spas, but Calistoga stands out with its unique mud baths and mineral pools. They harness the natural hot springs and volcanic ash to create rejuvenating treatments that detoxify and nourish the skin, this offers a truly distinctive and therapeutic experience.
Hot air balloon ride: As a hot air balloon pilot myself, I can’t recommend enough the incredible experience of soaring over Napa Valley at sunrise. There’s truly no better way to take in the beauty of the region.
Oxbow Public Market: This vibrant marketplace in downtown Napa is a must-visit for foodies, featuring artisan vendors and local delights, and we always stop by Hog Island Oyster Co. for fresh oysters — arrive at opening to snag a seat, as it gets crowded quickly!
Places to eat & drink in Napa

The Charter Oak: A favorite of mine for its family-style meals, live-fire cooking and seasonal dishes that truly showcase Napa’s bounty.
Ad Hoc: This casual Thomas Keller restaurant serves a daily-changing, multi-course family-style menu. It is posted each day, offering comforting dishes in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Ad Hoc Addendum: Perfect for a quick lunch, this takeout spot behind Ad Hoc serves boxed meals like fried chicken or barbecue, with shaded picnic tables outside to enjoy your food.
Oakville Grocery: This historic market in Oakville offers a curated selection of gourmet sandwiches, artisanal cheeses and local wines. This makes it the perfect stop to pick up a for a picnic lunch before your wine tasting.
Model Bakery: Simply the best English muffins in the world — don’t miss their breakfast sandwich or grab a sleeve to take home. Both Napa and St. Helena locations are worth visiting.
Bouchon Bakery: A must-visit for artisanal breads and classic French pastries by Thomas Keller. This is where I always grab TKOs (his take on an Oreo), macarons and the perfected chocolate chunk cookie. You truly can’t go wrong with anything!
Frank Family Vineyards: A favorite for its friendly atmosphere and consistently excellent wines, perfect for a laid-back yet high-quality tasting experience.
Schramsberg: Renowned for its outstanding sparkling wines and intriguing cave tours, this winery provides a memorable journey through Napa Valley’s rich wine heritage.
Ashes & Diamonds: Modern and stylish with a laid-back vibe. This winery offers beautifully crafted wines that are perfect for those seeking a refreshing take on Napa Valley's classic styles.
Need to know
Reservations: To ensure a seamless experience, it's crucial to book appointments at wineries and restaurants well in advance. Many wineries require reservations weeks or even months ahead, and popular restaurants fill up quickly, especially on weekends. Nothing dampens a trip more than missing out on your top choices, so plan ahead to ensure you make the most of your trip!
Winery visits: I recommend visiting three wineries a day at most. This allows you to truly appreciate each visit without feeling rushed. Napa Valley's scenic beauty and the depth of its wine tastings are best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. This gives you time to immerse yourself in the stories behind each wine and soak in the ambiance.
Getting around: Napa Valley is best explored by car, but if you prefer not to drive, consider hiring a local driver or using wine tour services. This can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, especially when visiting multiple wineries.
