Curator’s statement
Traveling with kids just got easier in the Cotswolds. By anchoring our trip in the gourmet hub of Kingham and the adventure-led Farncombe Estate, we found a rare balance where high-end design and family-led fun coexist perfectly. It’s that magic blend where a stunning, Michelin-listed escape manages to feel just as soulful and effortless for the children as it does for the parents.

Things to do in The Cotswolds, UK

Bottle-feed lambs at Cotswold Farm Park
This was the absolute peak of the trip for our son; getting hands-on with rare breeds in such a beautiful setting is an unforgettable core memory. I recommend booking the demonstration times in advance during spring and summer to ensure you get a turn with bottle feeding the lambs.
Explore the Farncombe Estate trails
The estate offers 500 acres of private hiking trails that feel completely immersive but are well-marked enough for a family trek. We loved that we could start right from our doorstep and see the entire valley without ever seeing a car.
Visit the Woodland Playground at The Fish
This isn’t your average plastic park; it’s a stunning, natural play area tucked into the trees that fits a beautiful “woodsy aesthetic.” It kept our son occupied for hours while we enjoyed the view and the fresh country air.
Borrow wellies from the Boot Room
One of the best amenities at The Fish is their “Welly Room” in partnership with Muck Boot, which provides boots for the whole family. It made our hikes stress-free because we knew we could return to the hotel and use the dedicated boot and dog wash stations immediately.
Climb Broadway Tower
A short drive from the village, this gorgeous hillside offers some of the best views in England across several counties. It’s a great way for kids to burn off energy while parents take in the history and the cafe on-site.
Places to eat & drink in The Cotswolds, UK

The Wild Rabbit (Kingham)
This Michelin-listed gastropub serves some of the best seasonal British fare in the country in a stunning, rustic-chic setting. The included breakfast is a highlight, featuring farm-fresh organic eggs and local sourdough that set the bar for our entire trip.
Daylesford Organic Farm (Kingham)
Just minutes from the hotel, this is a lifestyle destination where you can have a world-class lunch or grab a "chic" picnic to go. We recommend sitting in the Trough restaurant for a long lunch. The ingredients are as fresh as it gets, sourced directly from the farm.
Sunday Roast at The Fish Hotel
This is a quintessential English tradition and a non-negotiable must-do when staying on the estate. The food is incredible, and the hotel offers a sophisticated "Tiddlers" menu for kids that is miles beyond the standard "nuggets and chips" fare.
The Swan (Broadway)
This is our favorite stop for a relaxed pub atmosphere in the heart of Broadway village. It is incredibly family-friendly and the perfect spot to park the car and rest your feet after a morning of exploring the local shops.
Dormy House (Broadway)
Located on the same estate as The Fish, we loved coming here for a more refined evening vibe. The food is elevated but the service remains warm and welcoming, making it a great spot for a nicer family dinner.
Need to know
Renting a car was the smartest move we made for this itinerary. It gave us total freedom to move from the gourmet shops of Kingham to the farm parks without the stress of local taxi availability.
Reservations and logistics:
While The Fish, Dormy House, and The Wild Rabbit prioritize seating times for their hotel guests, ensuring you have a table is key. These dining rooms are highly sought after. I recommend securing your dinner and Sunday Roast reservations at least 4–6 weeks in advance to guarantee your preferred time.
If you are driving electric, the Cotswolds is surprisingly well-equipped. There are reliable charging stations at Daylesford Organic and right on-site at The Fish Hotel, making it easy to top up while you shop or sleep. We also recommend a mid-size SUV. You want something manageable for the narrow lanes, but with enough trunk space for all the Daylesford candles and muddy hiking gear!
