Curator’s statement
The Serengeti stands out to me because it offers the kind of travel experience that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to nature. I love the idea that travelers can spend the day experiencing incredible wildlife and wide-open landscapes, then return to a beautiful property where they can slow down, relax, and take everything in. For me, this is the type of destination I would recommend to someone who wants more than a vacation—they want an experience they will still be talking about years later.

Things to do

Zebras and wildebeest on safari in Tanzania
Take a Serengeti game drive
A game drive would be at the top of my list because it gives travelers the chance to experience the Serengeti beyond simply seeing it from the lodge. I especially like the option of a full-day drive for travelers who want to slow down and spend more time observing wildlife rather than rushing from one sighting to another.
See the Serengeti by hot air balloon
For a completely different perspective, I recommend an early-morning hot-air-balloon safari over the savannah. The experience begins around sunrise and is followed by a Champagne breakfast in the bush, making this one I would especially suggest for couples, honeymooners, or anyone celebrating something special.
Explore on a walking safari
I love the idea of adding a walking safari because travelers get to notice the smaller details that can easily be missed from a vehicle, including tracks, plants, and insects. Four Seasons offers a guided 90-minute experience with a resident naturalist, Maasai guides, and park rangers.
Spend time at the lodge’s watering hole
Not every memorable wildlife moment requires leaving the property. One of the details I find most special about Four Seasons Safari Lodge is its location beside an active watering hole, where guests may be able to watch elephants and other wildlife while relaxing at the lodge.
Experience a Serengeti sundowner
After a day of exploring, I would recommend slowing things down with a sundowner overlooking the landscape. Four Seasons offers a bush sundowner at a scenic rock viewpoint, pairing the Serengeti sunset with drinks and canapés.
Visit the Discovery Centre
I would make time for the Discovery Centre because a safari becomes even more meaningful when travelers understand the environment and culture around them. The center offers opportunities to learn about local wildlife, Maasai culture, history, and conservation work.
Make time for the spa
I wouldn’t fill every hour with excursions; part of the luxury of this trip should be having time to actually enjoy the property. After a dusty game drive, a spa treatment followed by time overlooking the savannah would be my choice for balancing adventure with relaxation.
Places to eat & drink

Safari dining with sweeping views of the Tanzanian landscape
Nuru at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti
This is one of my top recommendations for travelers who want an elevated meal without losing the feeling of being on safari. The restaurant overlooks the Serengeti and combines locally sourced ingredients with African-inspired and international dishes; seafood lovers should look at the Zanzibar catch of the day or other selections from its newer coastal-inspired menu.
Boma Grill at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti
I would recommend saving this experience for dinner because the open-air firepit setting turns the meal into part of the safari experience itself. The menu highlights African flavors, and travelers looking for seafood can consider dishes such as grilled jumbo prawns or the fish of the day.
Maji Bar and Terrace
This is my pick for a relaxed lunch or afternoon drink between safari activities. It overlooks the pool and Serengeti landscape, with lighter choices such as fresh salads, homemade pizza, and other casual dishes, making it a nice contrast to a more formal evening meal.
The Vineyard at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti
For travelers celebrating something special, I would consider reserving this intimate wine-cellar experience. It offers a five-course set menu paired with premium South African wines and feels particularly suited to couples or a special-occasion evening.
Bush dinner at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti
This is less about simply choosing a restaurant and more about creating a memorable Serengeti evening. Dinner is served outdoors in the national park with a torchlit barbecue, bonfire, and night sky, making it one of the experiences I’d recommend to travelers who want their dining to feel connected to the destination itself.
Need to know
A Tanzania safari is one of those trips where thoughtful planning can make a major difference in the experience. I recommend packing lightweight, neutral-colored layers and bringing a warmer layer for early-morning and evening game drives, when temperatures can feel surprisingly cool. A hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and a pair of comfortable closed-toe shoes are also worth keeping within easy reach.
Safari days often begin early, so I would avoid over-scheduling the itinerary. Leave room to enjoy the lodge between game drives, take in the landscape, and simply slow down—some of the most memorable moments can happen when you’re not rushing to the next activity.
Travelers using small aircraft between safari areas should also check their flight’s baggage requirements before packing, as luggage allowances and bag-style restrictions may differ from international flights. For a special occasion or first safari, I also recommend planning well in advance so there is more flexibility when choosing preferred lodges, room categories, and experiences.
