Advisor - The Best of Budapest for Solo Travelers
Curator’s statement

Budapest, Hungary, was the first place I traveled alone. It is a unique spot compared to the more often highlighted spots on the Mediterranean coast, but it captures you unlike any other place I have been. I went in the freezing cold of January and had a magnificent time. I can’t wait to return, so I’m giving you my first-trip-to-Budapest itinerary (while I start to plan my next trip).

Where to stay

Unlock perks by contacting Rebekah to book your trip.

Day 1: Arrive in Budapest

After your arrival, settle into your accommodation and freshen up.

Afternoon

Take a leisurely stroll to get your first feel of the city. Explore nearby streets, enjoy a coffee or light snack, and soak in the atmosphere of Budapest’s vibrant urban life.

Evening

Relax and prepare for the exciting days ahead. Consider a casual dinner nearby at a place with good Hungarian food or rest early to recover from your journey.

Day 2: St. Stephen’s Basilica, Hungarian Parliament Building & Danube cruise

At the Fisherman's Bastion

Start your day with a luxurious breakfast at the New York Café, famed for its stunning interior and historic charm. This beautiful café is worth it, but you will likely have to wait in line to get in, which is why I recommend arriving as early as possible.

Late morning

Visit St. Stephen’s Basilica, marvel at its impressive architecture, and, if you like, climb up to the dome for panoramic city views. It's such a gorgeous place on the other side of the river from where I stayed during my time in Budapest. I could have lingered there all day, but you do as you prefer.

For lunch

Head to Mazel Tov, a trendy spot offering delicious Middle Eastern cuisine in a lively courtyard setting.

Afternoon

Explore the Hungarian Parliament Building, an architectural masterpiece by the Danube. Then, wander through the Karajan Food Market to experience local flavors and treats.

Late afternoon or evening

Enjoy a serene Danube River cruise to see Budapest’s landmarks from the water as the city lights begin to sparkle. It's a view like any other. If you get a boozy cruise though, please be careful—they keep filling your glass and you won't even notice.

Evening

After your cruise and before or after dinner, unwind with drinks at Leo’s Rooftop Bar, offering stunning views over Budapest’s skyline.

Day 3: Heroes' Square & Buda Castle

Morning

Begin at Heroes' Square, a grand monument celebrating Hungary’s history and leaders.

Walk or take public transport to Buda Castle. Explore its grounds and enjoy free entry to the castle area, soaking in the historic atmosphere and views over the Danube.

Afternoon

Near the Buda Castle, there are lots of places to enjoy a meal or a coffee. Choose a local café nearby or revisit one of your favorite spots from the previous day.

If time allows, revisit favorite spots or explore hidden gems in the Castle District.

Evening

Finally, enjoy your last dinner in Budapest, reflecting on your trip and savoring Hungarian cuisine.
