Curator’s statement
Palm Springs, California, is one of those destinations that has something for everyone. But my latest obsession is bopping around the desert with my toddler. The Palm Springs airport gives a proper welcome with minimal fuss and ease in getting to your hotel destination. Pack a good hat, stroller fan, and walking shoes. This desert oasis is sure to impress even the littlest jet-setter. There’s plenty of outdoor fun to be had, whether lounging by the hotel pool or exploring the cacti. Palm Springs also offers plenty of upscale, kid-friendly restaurants, all wrapped up in that unmistakable California cool vibe.

Things to do in Palm Springs

My toddler taking his truck around the Sunnylands Center & Gardens
Some of our highlights include soaking in golden hour while admiring the mountain shadows and naming the turtles at Moorten Botanical Garden. This is all in between hotel swim sessions to beat the heat.
For art enthusiasts, don’t miss the Palm Springs Art Museum. We love to spend the afternoon meandering around the Sunnylands estate, which has an impressive cactus garden, rich history, a great gift shop, and endless green space to run around. Be sure to enjoy the labyrinth!
For those who like the beach, the Palm Springs Surf Club has a wave simulator. It’s your “surf paradise in the heart of the desert.”
Ruth Hardy Park has a great play structure, and for those little hikers, check out the Tahquitz Canyon hike for a nominal entry fee and a 1.8-mile loop. My kiddo walked some of the way and got a shoulder ride for the rest. It’s best to do this before the heat of the day! (Strollers are not advised).
All of this, and you still must plan a day trip to Joshua Tree!
If you can sneak away for sunrise, crush the Power Yoga Palm Springs roof-top class.
Places to eat & drink in Palm Springs

Mom and Dad sipping some of the freshest margaritas at Clandestinos
Palm Springs is a mecca for great food.
Workshop Kitchen is a cool, modern spot in a restored 1920s theater. Kids will love the wood-fired pizzas, and parents will savor the farm-to-table freshness.
Clandestinos is one of a few locations in the locally owned restaurant group. This location (unlike Ta’quila) has an excellent mountain view near the art museum and main shopping street. The jamaica/hibiscus margarita and iris Salad are so fresh for a hot desert day! My son devours the guacamole.
The Thompson Hotel’s Lola Rose has great mountain views, yummy bar eats like a mezzo platter, and excellent service.
Hands down, the best bagel on the West Coast is found at Townie Bagels—especially the cinnamon raisin!
Visit Cheeky’s Palm Springs for breakfast, including a perfectly sweet cinnamon roll, and the unique bacon flight.
For date night, check out Paul Bar, an unassuming institution in a strip mall, or step into vintage Palm Springs glamor at Mr. Lyons or its hidden speakeasy, Seymour's, which is tucked inside!
Need to know
As mentioned, Palm Springs truly has something for everyone. There is a lineup of bucket-list experiences—from the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament and Palm Springs International Film Festival to La Quinta Arts Festival and the ever-popular Modernism Week. The area’s mid-century architecture and rich cultural history, combined with easy access to outdoor adventures, make it a dream destination for leisure travelers. With its own international airport and frequent flights from major cities, getting to Palm Springs is a breeze. Pro tip: Plan your visit between November and April, when daytime temperatures are warm and evenings are refreshingly cool. Summers can get hot, so winter and spring offer the most comfortable weather for exploring everything Palm Springs has to offer.
