Day 1: Exploring Banff National Park

Banff National Park
Arrive in Calgary and enjoy the scenic 90-minute drive into Banff National Park, the gateway to the Canadian Rockies. After checking into your hotel, spend time exploring the charming town of Banff with its boutique shops, mountain views, and excellent restaurants. Ride the Banff Gondola to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views of the Bow Valley and surrounding peaks—one of the most iconic experiences in Banff. In the evening, unwind at the Banff Upper Hot Springs or enjoy dinner in town featuring local Canadian specialties like Alberta beef or fresh trout.
Day 2: Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

Today explore two of the most famous lakes in the Canadian Rockies: Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Start your morning at Lake Louise, where brilliant turquoise water and the Victoria Glacier create one of the most photographed landscapes in Canada. Walk the scenic lakeshore trail or rent a canoe for a classic Rockies experience. If visiting during summer months, continue to Moraine Lake, known for its stunning Valley of the Ten Peaks and vibrant blue water. Return to Banff in the evening and enjoy the relaxed mountain town atmosphere after a day of exploring Banff National Park’s most iconic scenery.
Day 3: Icefields Parkway scenic drive to Jasper

Today, travel along the legendary Icefields Parkway, widely considered one of the most scenic drives in the world. This route between Banff and Jasper passes glaciers, waterfalls, turquoise lakes, and dramatic mountain viewpoints. Stop at the Columbia Icefield to walk on the Athabasca Glacier or experience the Glacier Skywalk for incredible views over the Sunwapta Valley. Continue north to Jasper National Park, known for its wildlife and peaceful alpine landscapes. Jasper is also a designated Dark Sky Preserve, making it one of the best places in Canada for stargazing on a clear night.
Need to know
The best time to visit the Canadian Rockies is from June through September, when hiking trails are open and the famous turquoise lakes are fully thawed. Moraine Lake access is now restricted to shuttle or tour access, so planning ahead is essential. Wildlife sightings are common throughout Banff and Jasper, including elk, bears, and mountain goats, especially in early morning or evening hours. For travelers wanting a more luxurious or relaxed way to see the region, adding a journey on the Rocky Mountaineer train between Vancouver and Banff is an unforgettable way to experience the Canadian Rockies.
