Curator’s statement
Fiji will always hold a special place in my heart because it surprised me in the best way. I first went as a solo traveler and discovered not just incredible natural beauty—coral reefs, shark dives, and secluded islands—but also the warmth of the Fijian people, who made me feel instantly at home. It’s one of the few destinations that pulled me back again and again, even sharing it with my family the second time around. For me, Fiji isn’t just a honeymoon destination, it’s a place of connection, adventure, and unforgettable memories.

Things to do in Fiji

Photo taken by me on a bull shark dive
Snorkel or dive the coral reefs: The reefs in Fiji are unbelievably vibrant, full of colorful fish, soft corals, and clear waters that make you feel like you’re swimming in an aquarium.
Go scuba diving (shark dive!): For thrill seekers, the bull shark dive at Barefoot Kuata is unforgettable, both exhilarating and safe, with conservation at its core.
Island hop by boat: Taking a day trip to smaller islands lets you experience hidden beaches, local villages, and untouched nature.
Sunrise yoga by the ocean: Starting the day with guided yoga as the sun rises over the Pacific is grounding and magical.
Enjoy a traditional Fijian welcome: Resorts often greet guests with song and dance, and it’s one of the most heartfelt, memorable traditions.
Relax at Oarsman’s Bay Lodge: Perfect for slowing down with family or friends, it offers stunning views and a peaceful vibe that’s hard to leave.
Taste local cuisine: From fresh fish cooked over an open fire to tropical fruits and coconut-based dishes, Fijian food is both comforting and delicious.
Take a cave tour: Exploring Fiji’s caves is both adventurous and cultural—you swim through turquoise waters, hear stories of the caves’ history, and discover a mystical side of the islands.
Places to eat & drink in Fiji

A tasty lunch at Oarsmans Bay Resort.
Fiji Beachouse (Coral Coast, Viti Levu): A relaxed, social vibe with a mix of local dishes and Western favorites. I loved the beachfront setting—breakfast with ocean views and fresh tropical fruit was the perfect start to the day.
Barefoot Kuata Resort (Kuata Island, Yasawas): All meals are included here, and the food is both fresh and hearty. Think grilled fish, curries, and tropical desserts served with a side of ocean breeze. Eating while watching the sunset over the water was unforgettable.
Oarsman’s Bay Lodge (Nacula Island, Yasawas): This lodge focuses on fresh, local ingredients with communal-style meals that bring guests together. The mix of Fijian flavors and international touches made every meal special, and dining under the stars was magical.
Island Bar at Barefoot Kuata: A fun little spot to grab a cold Fiji Gold beer or a tropical cocktail after a day of diving or snorkeling. The atmosphere is casual and social, and it’s the kind of place where travelers bond over adventures.
Downtown Nadi: If you have time on the main island, Nadi offers a range of local eateries. You can try Fijian curries (influenced by Indian cuisine), roti, and fresh seafood. It’s a great way to experience everyday food culture beyond the resorts.
Beach barbecue nights (at many resorts): Several resorts host themed dinners, and my favorite were the barbecue nights. Freshly grilled fish, meat, and veggies paired with live music and dancing made for a truly authentic Fijian evening.
Fresh fruit everywhere: Fiji’s papayas, pineapples, and coconuts taste like sunshine. Resorts often serve them at every meal, and sipping straight from a coconut after a hot day in the ocean is unbeatable.
Need to know
Leaving Barefoot Kuata was harder than I expected, and in fact, I couldn’t stay away; I returned just three months later. This time, I brought my parents with me for a family trip to Oarsman’s Bay Lodge in the Yasawas. The resort was stunning, with its sweeping views, turquoise waters, and a warm, community-like atmosphere. Sharing Fiji with my parents was really special. It was the perfect place for them to relax while I got to show them why I’d fallen in love with the islands.
Of course, I couldn’t resist another stop at Barefoot Kuata, where I was welcomed back like family. That’s the magic of Fiji—it’s not just the natural beauty, but the warmth of the people and the sense of belonging that keeps drawing you back.
Fiji completely changed the way I think about solo travel, and it proved to me that this island paradise isn’t just for couples, it’s perfect for adventurers, families, and anyone looking for a place that feels like home the moment you arrive.
