Things to do in Florence

Piazzale Michelangelo: A must-do when you are in Florence. It’s a quick hike to the top for stunning, sweeping views of the entire city. Make sure to grab some wine at the Italian Wine Shop, which is right on the way, for some vino and a beautiful sunset.

Scuola del Cuoio: Scuola del Cuoio in Florence offers a rare chance to witness authentic leather craftsmanship in a historic monastery, where artisans create high-quality, handmade goods using time-honored techniques. Visitors can shop for personalized leather items, explore its rich post–WWII history, or even join hands-on workshops to learn the craft themselves.

Boboli Gardens: Visit the Boboli Gardens, a lush, expansive landscape behind Palazzo Pitti, where you can wander through beautifully manicured paths, discover classical sculptures, and enjoy stunning views of Florence.

Uffizi Gallery: Don’t miss the Uffizi Gallery, home to an unparalleled collection of Renaissance masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Botticelli. Stroll through its historic halls and witness the art that shaped Florence’s rich cultural legacy.

Places to eat & drink in Florence

Osteria del Pavone: My personal favorite classic Tuscan restaurant, which has the best truffle pasta—and the steak is to die for. It is on the more local side of Florence, which I personally love. Very local and authentic, a must-try.

La Strega Nocciola Gelateria Artigianale: Having lived in Italy for a summer and also having been back two times, I take pride in trying every gelato available in Florence. This is hands down the best!

Salumeria Verdi - Pino’s Sandwiches: A beloved and iconic sandwich shop decorated with college flags from around the world, attracting a diverse crowd of residents, students, and travelers alike. I go here at least once or twice whenever I am in Florence.

Gustapizza: The go-to spot for delicious, wood-fired pizza that’s fresh, fast, and full of flavor. It’s super popular with both locals and tourists. Grab a pie and eat it on the steps of Santo Spirito like a true Florentine. This is another go-to spot for me whenever I am in Florence!

Need to know

Florence is a walkable city rich in art, history, and Tuscan flavors. Be sure to wear comfy shoes and book major museum tickets (like the Uffizi and Accademia) in advance to avoid long lines. For authentic shopping, skip the touristy markets and visit trusted spots like Scuola del Cuoio for real Florentine leather. Don’t miss sunset at Piazzale Michelangelo for a stunning city view, and enjoy the local aperitivo culture in lively neighborhoods like Santo Spirito. Most museums close on Mondays, so plan your visits accordingly!
