Curator’s statement

When winter gets you down, break away to Baha Mar in the beautiful Bahamas! Situated on the north side of Nassau island, Baha Mar comprises a gorgeous resort community with three hotel properties, countless pools, stunning beaches, and dining options that span food trucks, sleek cocktail bars, and elegant fine dining. There are plenty of local restaurants, beach bars, and nightlife options nearby, as well as a top-tier golf course at the Royal Blue, so getting off campus to explore the area is definitely recommended. Best of all, Baha Mar is easily accessible from the airport and only a short flight from the US.

Things to do in Baha Mar

Walking the beach across from Nesbitt's

  • Golf at the Royal Blue is a gorgeous but challenging course across from the Baha Mar resort.

  • Walk along the beach—head east from the Baha Mar resort, or check out the beach across from Nesbitt’s, which is rocky but beautiful

  • Downtown Nassau is bustling and lively, and great to wander around for a few hours—make sure to head to the far west end of the beach toward Arawak Cay for some funky little beach bars.

  • Sample the local food and cocktail scene at the wide variety of restaurants and bars that are within 15 minutes of the resort, where you can mix with the locals and keep up with the latest island gossip.

  • Chill at the pool or beach—there are so many options at the Baha Mar, you’ll run out of time before you sample them all.

  • Bon Vivants is a must! An adorable little cocktail spot with a creative selection of drinks (check out the Negroni list!) and terrific food options that pair perfectly with the wide-ranging cocktail selection.

  • Nesbitt’s Delaporte Restaurant is a classic Bahamian joint serving fish, chicken, pork, and a variety of sides in a casual atmosphere.

  • Sonia’s Jerk and the Gone Fish’n Beach Bar & Grill are the perfect casual local spots for an ice-cold beer and a platter of some of the best jerk chicken and rice and peas on the island.

  • Sunset Beach Club is an excellent choice for…sunset cocktails! Fantastic bartenders and an elevated food menu that makes you want to stay for another round.

  • The Poop Deck at Sandyport offers a finer take on Bahamian classics, including a choose-your-own selection of fish and steaks. Elegant beachfront setting with both outdoor and indoor seating, and friendly servers who make sure you have a wonderful experience.

Need to know

It’s incredibly easy to get around, so get off the property and explore! Taxis are plentiful and drivers are friendly and helpful. The bus is an even better option, running regularly back and forth along the main road. Servers and bartenders are full of great recommendations and opinions, so don’t shy away from asking! Try to avoid downtown Nassau when the cruise ships dock or you will be trapped in the vortex of passengers.
