Curator’s statement
Egypt was one of those trips that completely changed the way I see the world. Seeing the ancient wonders up close—the Pyramids, Luxor, Abu Simbel—reminded me how powerful travel can be. Every temple told a story, every market was alive with color, and every sunrise on the Nile felt like a dream. If Egypt isn’t on your list yet, it should be. It’s a bucket list destination that leaves you in awe long after you’ve returned home. It's hands-down my favorite trip ever.

Things to do in Egypt

One of the underground tombs in Valley of the Kings
Tour the ancient Pyramids of Giza—of course! You can even go inside. But honestly, everything beyond Giza surprised me even more. Just outside Cairo, the Saqqara Necropolis is home to Egypt’s oldest pyramids (did you know there are over 100 in total?), intricate tombs, and an enormous statue of Pharaoh Ramses II.
A must-do is a four-day Nile cruise—I recommend sailing from Aswan to Luxor so you save the best for last. Along the way, explore magnificent temples and the vibrant, colorful tombs in the Valley of the Kings.
If you have extra time, take a sand safari for a dose of adventure: off-road across the desert, sandboard down golden dunes, and finish with a picnic in an oasis.
And for a taste of local life, wander through Khan el-Khalili, Cairo’s centuries-old market that’s still bustling with energy, color, and charm. The finale is the Grand Egyptian Museum, officially open as of November 2025. It houses all the antiquities, including King Tut's golden crown.
Places to eat & drink in Egypt

Dinner with a view at Nile Maxim
Abou El Sid is traditional Egyptian food and a reservation is a must! It was made famous by Anthony Bourdain and Tom Hanks, so advance planning is the best bet. Think delicious falafel, hummus, tabouleh, and more!
While I'm not a big fast food fan, the Pizza Hut in Giza has the best view of the Pyramids.
If you want more delicious Egyptian cuisine, head to Al Khal for Egyptian barbecue, or Nile Maxim, a floating restaurant on the Nile River near Zamalek.
Need to know
Egypt uses the same voltage and plug as Europe. Be sure to dress modestly to respect their culture by covering shoulders and legs. Always be street smart, but safety was never a concern, even when wondering the streets of Cairo at night. They are always bustling.
