Curator’s statement
If you’ve been dreaming of a destination that blends centuries-old palaces with sleek design hotels, quiet teahouses with neon-lit shopping streets, then Seoul should be at the top of your list. I recently spent a couple of weeks exploring South Korea, and Seoul exceeded my expectations. Even with its rising popularity, the city still feels like a hidden gem. It’s buzzing with culture, creativity, and beauty (literally and figuratively). Whether you’re a skincare enthusiast, art lover, foodie, or history buff, Seoul has something special for you.

Things to do in Seoul

Gyeongbokgung Palace
Step into history at Gyeongbokgung Palace: Seoul’s largest and most iconic palace is best experienced during the changing of the guard ceremony. For a fun and immersive twist, rent a traditional hanbok (you’ll get free entry if you do!). While you’re in the area, stop by the Korean Folk Museum to get a deeper understanding of the country’s past.
Shop till you drop in Myeongdong: Dive into Korean fashion and beauty trends, from cult-favorite serums to colorful streetwear. Don’t leave without trying the famous strawberry mochi at the night market.
Get the full K-beauty treatment: Seoul is the epicenter of skincare. I treated myself to a personalized glass skin facial (starting with an in-depth skincare analysis!) and a relaxing head spa. Want to really level up your beauty shopping? Book a personal color analysis at the beginning of your trip so you can shop for all the right shades.
Feed your creative side: Seoul has a thriving art scene. Check out the rotating exhibits at Ground Seesaw (there are multiple locations across the city). We visited the Seochon location to see an exhibition by one of my favorite artists, Werner Bronkhorst.
Pick up souvenirs in Insadong: This charming neighborhood is filled with artisan shops and galleries. Look for handmade goods and grab a box of Korean string candy to take home.
Find peace at Jogyesa Temple: A serene Buddhist temple in the middle of the city, known for its lantern-covered courtyard and calming atmosphere.
Places to eat & drink in Seoul

Bibimbap
Yu Yuan: This Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant inside the Four Seasons Seoul feels both glamorous and inviting. Known for its beautifully plated dim sum and signature Peking duck, it’s a great choice for a celebratory lunch or a refined dinner with skyline views.
La Yeon: Located at The Shilla Seoul, this three-Michelin-starred restaurant takes traditional Korean cuisine to an art form. With a calm, minimalist atmosphere and sweeping views over Namsan, it’s ideal for travelers looking to experience classic dishes in a truly elevated (literally and figuratively) setting.
Osteria Orzo: A cozy, intimate Italian spot near Seochon with an open kitchen and creative pastas (don’t miss the ragù!). It’s chic but unpretentious—and one of my favorite meals of the trip!
Kiwa Taproom: A local brewery set in a traditional hanok house. It’s great for craft beer lovers and anyone looking for a casual spot after exploring Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Hadongkwan: A beloved institution for gomtang (rich, clear beef soup). Simple, satisfying, and perfect for a casual lunch in between shopping in Myeongdong.
Solsot Pot Rice House: This modern rice house elevates the humble Korean pot rice (dolsotbap) with premium toppings like steak or sea bream and scallops. Generous portions and balanced flavors make this a great midday refuel spot.
DOOKUPSAM Myeongdong: You can’t visit Seoul without trying Korean BBQ. This spot is known for its Hanwoo-aged Korean beef sirloin, sizzling tabletop grills, crisp lettuce wraps, and all the classic sides.
