Liguria is where Italy’s Riviera feels effortlessly real: colorful fishing villages, elegant promenades, and palm-lined seaside towns framed by mountains and sea. On a compact stretch of coast, you get world-class food, classic grand hotels, hidden coves, and easy day trips to icons like Portofino and Cinque Terre, without ever feeling stuck in a “resort bubble.” It’s polished yet authentic, refined yet relaxed, the kind of place where you can slow down, walk everywhere, and still feel connected to the life of the region.

The Dordogne and Bordeaux regions offer a journey into the heart of France that is as rich in history as it is in flavor. While Bordeaux is world-famous for its vineyards and elegant chateaus, the Dordogne remains one of France’s best-kept secrets, especially for American travelers. Here lies another world of prehistoric caves adorned with vivid paintings, some over 17,000 years old. And canoeing along the Dordogne River reveals golden stone villages and storybook scenery at every bend.

In April 2024, I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Austin before leaving to go to Fredericksburg to witness the total solar eclipse. The Manager upgraded the three rooms we had reserved, made sure we had chocolate-covered strawberries in the room, and included a $50 hotel credit along with a Starbucks drink coupon and one hotel drink coupon. I would stay here again and recommend it to my clients. The location is also ideal - overlooking Lady Bird Lake.

Savannah and Charleston were major hubs of the antebellum plantation economy, with their prosperity built on the backs of enslaved labor. The first shots of the Civil War were fired at Fort Sumter in Charleston harbor in 1861, marking the start of the bloodiest conflict in American history. Touring sites like Fort Sumter brings this pivotal moment to life. Both cities were major battlegrounds and strategic targets during the Civil War, changing hands multiple times between Union and Confederate forces. Visiting these cities provides a tangible connection to that complex and troubling history. I recommend these places to my clients looking for charming cities, great food and a deeper understanding of America's history, the Civil War and slavery.

My journey to understand Africa began in Johannesburg, where I visited the Apartheid Museum and Soweto — the epicenter of the anti-apartheid movement and the site of the 1976 uprising. This provided crucial historical context and a stark reminder of the country's troubled past.

Venturing further, I encountered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World - Victoria Falls. Known locally as "Mosi-oa-Tunya" or "The Smoke that Thunders," this massive waterfall straddles the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the largest waterfall on the planet by total height and volume of water.

The odyssey continued with safaris through Botswana and South Africa. Tracking the "big 5 plus," I had the opportunity to observe firsthand the realities of the natural ecosystem and the resilience of its wildlife. Seeing the "survival of the fittest" play out before my eyes was profoundly impactful, moving me to a deeper understanding of the delicate balance of these environments.

The journey culminated in the vibrant city of Cape Town, leaving me with an appreciation for the diverse landscapes and complex history of the African continent and inspired me to return.

Portugal’s allure lies in its breathtaking diversity, offering a tapestry of experiences. From awe-inspiring monolithic complexes steeped in centuries of history, cork farms, wineries, sun-kissed beaches, bustling markets and lively streets of the cities. Each cobblestone street and ancient monument tells a story of resilience and innovation. The culinary adventure makes each meal a gastronomic delight with a dedication to freshness and flavor, particularly its remarkable seafood. Each destination unveils a different facet of Portugal’s rich cultural heritage. There are endless adventures for those willing to explore this magnificent country.

Belfast and Northern Ireland hold a unique charm and significance due to its rich history, cultural diversity, vibrant arts and music scene, excellent restaurants and stunning landscapes.

The reputation of Belfast and Northern Ireland has, for a long time, been overshadowed by The Troubles, a period of conflict in Northern Ireland from the late 1960s to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. And while it is fascinating to see and hear about that history, Belfast is no longer a city defined by conflict. Instead, it is a rich melting pot of cultures and traditions in its bustling urban hubs. It has become recognized for its warmth and hospitality and is a treasure to visit.
