Lisbon felt familiar in a way I didn’t expect. I remember walking up a steep hill, out of breath and sweaty, then turning a corner and finding the most ridiculous view: pastel buildings, laundry flapping in the breeze, someone playing music out of a cracked window. I didn’t have a list of things to check off—I just wandered. I ended up in a tiny bar drinking vinho verde with two older women who didn’t speak English but kept topping off my glass anyway.
