Horse lovers from around the world gather for beautiful afternoons at one of the most picturesque racetracks you’ll ever visit. Pair that with a University of Kentucky football or basketball game, a bourbon distillery tour, live music downtown, incredible restaurants, and genuine Southern hospitality, and it’s easy to understand why so many visitors find themselves planning their next trip before they’ve even left. Lexington is the perfect long weekend destination. Whether you’re here for horse racing, bourbon, the outdoors, or simply great food and beautiful countryside, there’s something for everyone. After moving here over a decade ago, I can honestly say I’m proud to call Lexington home. These are the places I recommend over and over again to friends and family coming to visit. What used to be a three-and-a-half-hour drive from my hometown on Long Island has now become a flight from Lexington, Kentucky, but the excitement of arriving never changes. While Saratoga Race Course is undoubtedly the heart of the city during July and August, there's so much more to discover beyond the grandstand.
