Astana isn’t just a capital city filled with futuristic architecture—it’s a reflection of Kazakhstan’s vision for itself. Jodhpur holds a special place in my heart. I first visited Rajasthan over a decade ago, exploring the palaces and sights of Jaipur, but I always felt drawn to Jodhpur — curious about its rich equestrian heritage and the legendary Marwari horses I’d read about. When I finally made it here, the city exceeded every expectation. The deep indigo tones of the old city seemed to glow under the desert sun, wrapping each narrow alley in a kind of magic. Towering above it all, Mehrangarh Fort tells centuries of history through its ramparts and galleries, while intricate carvings and colorful frescoes echo the artistry of generations past. But what truly made Jodhpur unforgettable for me were its warm, welcoming people and the food — bold, flavorful and rooted in tradition. I curated this itinerary as a guide to explore the city's marvels but also indulge in its splendor.

Tajikistan is such a unique melting pot - it’s a curious mix of Soviet, Persian and Turkic influences. Its capital, Dushanbe, has all the trappings of a world renowned city- massive museums, wide avenues, verdant parks, gold gilded statues- without the population of one. Dushanbe’s name comes from its past legacy as the location of Monday markets, and this down-to-earth feeling still remains despite the grandiose accents. Outside the city, Iskanderkul is the most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen- and I’ve seen a lot of lakes! It’s worth spending a day or two outside the city to get a sense of Tajikistan’s landscapes and the culture found in its rural areas.

Uzbekistan is a Silk Road gem, filled with history, architecture and the confluence of cultures that is distinctly Uzbek. While the tourism infrastructure there has developed significantly in the past decade, it still provides travelers the opportunity to feel off the beaten path in a country that feels simultaneously frozen in time and open to the future.

I recently stayed in Guatape for two nights as a side trip from Medellin. The main sights feel like well-established tourist hotspots. But spending extra time in Guatape allows you to see a different side of the area and properly enjoy the beautiful landscape. At night, the fireflies flicker by the shore, and it's really special to curl up with a glass of wine and soak it all in.

Most people equate the Middle East with hot weather. I recently stayed at the Mountain View Experience, which is truly a delight to young and old.
