Having grown up just outside NYC in Northern NJ, I can confidently say that the best time to visit “the” city is in the fall. The air smells crisp, the leaves are changing colors and the temperatures are perfect for exploring the concrete jungle by foot. There are a million things to do and places to dine, so if you’re feeling lost on where to even begin, I have created a list of some of my favorites below.

New Mexico, the land of enchantment with rich Native American and Hispanic history and culture. October is the best time of year to visit this desert state with its sunny skies, crisp mornings and warm afternoons. From the enchanting International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque to the grandiose Rio Grande Gorge in Taos, there is so much beauty to see and so many things to do.

Chicago - The beloved unofficial capital of the Midwest is a bustling metropolis set against the beautiful Lake Michigan. This city offers endless activities, world-class dining and incredibly friendly hospitality. Although the winters bring its nickname The Windy City to life, there is nothing quite like the vibrancy and spirit of Summertime Chi. Having visited family and friends there for the last 15 years, I have compiled some of my recommendations below.

Sardinia (Sardegna in Italian) is quietly waiting for your arrival, while popular cities in mainland Italy still get most of the limelight. The island, sitting just off the coast of Rome, has rightfully been gaining attention over the past few years. Known for its stunning beaches and picturesque turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea, it also offers incredible hiking, divine seafood and friendly locals. Sardegna is also recognized as a Blue Zone, one of only five regions in the world to be recognized for its citizens’ extraordinary longevity and vitality.

Paris has long been a highly sought after European destination for luxury shopping, historic architecture and the fabulous food and wine scene. For those who are looking for some sport, adventure and exploration, the city has so much to offer when the famed Roland Garros Grand Slam tennis tournament comes to town to help kick off summer.

Visiting Europe in the shoulder season is the perfect time of year to enjoy great weather, less crowds, and lower prices. Don’t overlook Croatia as a fantastic destination option in late September. This beautiful country is located on the Balkan peninsula and its entire coastline runs along the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea. We chose to focus on the Western & Coastal regions of the country for this trip to ensure we had enough time to fully experience the history, nature, gastronomy, and hospitality that each place had to offer.

Santa Ynez Valley is a must-visit for wine lovers. This quaint area is made up of a cluster of small towns, with picturesque mountains, rolling hills, and vineyards in between. Located just a 2.5-hour drive from Los Angeles, it has everything you could want for a 3–4-day getaway. Santa Ynez Valley has far more affordable prices than its in-state wine region rivals. World-renowned vineyards, a variety of activities and fantastic dining make for a quintessential California destination.

If you are seeking a nature-filled summer escape, look no further than Banff, Canada. This incredible national park offers it all: majestic peaks, turquoise lakes, hiking trails, hot springs, gondolas, glaciers, and more. This one-week itinerary reflects a fitness-forward two-person trip however, whether you’re traveling with a partner, kids, or elderly parents, Banff truly has something to offer everyone for a memorable vacation.

Los Angeles - the crown jewel of SoCal. There is something for everyone here - beaches, mountains, shopping, art, movies, entertainment, dining, nightlife. With an average daily temperature of 70 degrees and very little rain, it's no wonder 46 million people visit each year from all around the world. Having lived in LA for six years, I have compiled some of my recommendations below.
