What’s the best part of Santa Fe to stay in?

The area surrounding Santa Fe Plaza, where you’ll find the New Mexico Museum of Art and the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (a.k.a. MoCNA), is a lively and walkable area with trendy coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques. You’ll find many of the best Santa Fe hotels here, too. But ultimately, it depends on what you want to do.

If you’re not planning on spending much time in the city, for example, there are awesome spa resorts that are slightly removed where you can relax and rejuvenate.

How many nights do you need to experience Santa Fe?

That’s up to you! If you’re trying to take in all the highlights of the city, most Fora Advisors recommend spending two to three days in Santa Fe. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan a longer trip (maybe to add a couple relaxing spa days to your itinerary).

3 of the coolest hotels in Santa Fe, New Mexico

1. Hotel Santa Fe, Hacienda & Spa: a relaxing, Pueblo-style retreat for culture & art junkies

Hotel Santa Fe, the only Native American-owned hotel in Downtown Santa Fe, prides itself on providing an immersive experience for guests interested in Picuris Pueblo culture.

The hotel features an expansive and award-winning collection of Native American art and traditional experiences, such as private dining in a Teepee and spa treatments inspired by centuries-old traditions. Likewise, the rooms are furnished with authentic Pueblo decor while offering a homey feel and lavish comforts.

As for location, you’ll find this lovely four-star Santa Fe hotel just a short car ride away from Downtown.

2. La Fonda on the Plaza: a cool Santa Fe hotel in the heart of Downtown

Surrounded by the best of Santa Fe, La Fonda on the Plaza is an American-Southwest-themed hotel right in the heart of the city, mere steps away from Santa Fe Plaza and all of its fun shops and eateries.

In terms of accommodations, expect high-end amenities and comfy, yet spacious rooms. And like Hotel Santa Fe, art is a big focus at La Fonda on the Plaza — except the focus is a bit more general and contemporary.

Overall, this is a great Santa Fe hotel if you want to be close to the action with a relaxing retreat to return to when you’re done exploring.

Fun fact: while this Santa Fe hotel is a comparatively new addition to the Plaza, the grounds it was built on happen to be the site of Santa Fe’s first inn, which was established over 400 years ago when Spaniards first settled the area.

3. Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi: one of the most luxurious boutique hotels in Santa Fe

Offering a gorgeous blend of traditional Southwest decor and subtle contemporary influences, Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi is an exceptionally classy Santa Fe hotel that still honors its traditional roots. All of the rooms feature handcrafted furniture, wood ceilings and an upscale vibe.

This five-star hotel is also located just steps away from the Plaza (although not as close as La Fonda), so you’re close to many of the city’s best sights. In fact, the Palace of the Governors and New Mexico History Museum are just across the street.

Whether you’re planning a girls’ trip to Santa Fe, a fun family vacation or a relaxing solo sojourn (or anything in between), this five-star hotel is an excellent choice.

Fora Perks at Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi:

  • Welcome amenity.

  • Breakfast Daily.

  • Upgrade & extended check-in/out whenever possible.
