Girls in Santa Fe
Curator’s statement

Santa Fe pops up on every “Girls Trip” list you’ll find — so our girls trip finally tried it. An art-vibrant, gallery-filled small New Mexico town, we found that a couple of nights would be enough and that (surprising for this group) our favorite places were outside the city center. We were by far the youngest group in town, except for the two bachelorette parties we ran into — most visitors were smaller groups of sweet older ladies. If you’re looking for quality time with friends to reconnect, Santa Fe’s pace will give you just that.

Things to do

Ten Thousand Waves Japanese Resort + Spa (this one is the most recommended of things to do in SF) and by far our favorite part of the trip. A 10-minute drive from town to a beautiful, quiet, tucked-away spa. We did massages and facials (highly recommend the oxygen facial) and spent time unwinding in the hot tub, sauna and cold plunge area.

Meow Wolf - whoa. Maybe don’t go to this stone cold sober. Definitely an experience you have to do and you’ll find yourself thinking about it weeks later.

Georgia O’Keefe Museum - Perhaps one of my favorite stops in Santa Fe. If you have time for a day trip, head out to Ghost Ranch, for a hike, a retreat or just to visit where O’Keefe did her best work.

Canyon Road Art Galleries and Shops - Pick a day when you have a few hours to stroll the road, as there is gallery after gallery to peek into with surprising art and jewelry in hidden nooks and galleries along the way. Strategically plan a patio stop at Ahmyo Wine bar.

Santa Fe Railyard - El Mercado from 9-4 on Sundays is a quick way to see local artists and snag fresh flowers or local produce for a snack.

Hike the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve

Open-air Opera House

Margarita Train Ride - This was more train than it was margaritas. We really only could get one or two given the ratio of bartender to people on the train - and they just did not hit. The train ride was great to get out of the city and see some of the surrounding landscape and it’s fun for a good girls picture on a train, but it was 2.5 hours when it could’ve been.

Site Santa Fe - Modern art museum with ever-changing exhibits.

Day Trips

Ghost Ranch, Taos and 10,000 Waves.

Places to eat & drink in Santa Fe

The Santa Fe Railyard was the spot that felt most right for our vibe. Young and playful with a better scene and more spots to bop into, including As Above So Below and Opuntia. Paloma was close as well.

As Above So Below - Best little cocktail bar and distillery right by the Railyard

Paloma - cute Mexican restaurant with a great bar and delicious cocktails (which were not easy to find).

Henry and the Fish - Coffee and smoothies to start the day, close to the town square.

Herve Wine Bar - Outside wine bar hidden behind a cute little iron door.

El Rey Court- La Reina for Happy Hour/Live Music this place was a stand out to us— Adorable little hotel with a very cute bar scene and incredible cocktails.

Dolina Santa Fe - Bakery and breakfast.

Sazon Santa Fe - James Beard dinner.

Compound - Award-winning Folk Art-inspired restaurant.

Geronimo - Dinner. This is a must for foodies. When we first walked it you could hear a pin drop and we were worried our vibe might be off for the restaurant, but as it got later, it got vibe-y and our service was incredible. The vegetarian tasting menu was one for the books.

Izamami restaurant at Ten Thousand Waves resort for sushi lunch. The view (it felt like you were somewhere v far away from N-Mexico, and the food (miso eggplant, shishito peppers, bento boxes) transported us.

Opunita I never go to the same place twice on a trip, but Opuntia changed my mind on that. Incredible salads, some of the best French fries I’ve ever had (get all the aiolis) and a good cocktail list - indoor and outdoor seating

La Boca - Tapas spot with live music. This was on of our most fun dinner locations with a great vibe and a paella that’s a must

Zacatlan- newer on the scene in Santa Fe and a very hard table to get. The service was great. The wine list was one of the better ones, but the food was a bit disappointing after all the hype.

The Anasazi Restaurant at the Rosewood was surprisingly elegant, refined and memorable. I don’t ever expect too much from a hotel restaurant, but this one could’ve been our best meal in Santa Fe. Wine list was great and our server super knowledgeable.
