Westside Style: W Los Angeles - West Beverly Hills
Curator’s statement

Los Angeles is a city of distinct vibes, and finding a “home base” that feels both vibrant and residential is a rare win. I recently visited the W Los Angeles - West Beverly Hills to see how it balances its cool “W” energy with a city-center location. It’s a property that manages to feel tucked away in a safe, upscale neighborhood while keeping you minutes from the heart of the Westside.

Where to stay

One of the most unique things about the W Los Angeles is the history of the building itself. Originally designed as a luxury college residence in the 1960s for UCLA, it has retained a residential floor plan that is a total dream for space-starved travelers. Even the entry-level rooms feel more like chic studio apartments than standard hotel rooms; think generous closets, massive windows, and incredible natural light. If you’ve ever stayed in a cramped hotel in Beverly Hills, you’ll find the breathing room here to be a major upgrade.

The design is a love letter to the LA art scene. The hotel partners with Art Angels in West Hollywood to feature a rotating collection of works, with a special commitment to highlighting female artists. It gives the common spaces a gallery-like energy that feels sophisticated but totally unpretentious. Outside, the “WET” pool deck is a lush, landscaped oasis; fun fact, it was actually a filming location for Pretty Woman! Today, it’s a much more modern scene with an outdoor bar and fantastic cabanas that are surprisingly well-priced for the neighborhood.

I’d recommend this property for a few specific types of travelers. If you are in town for UCLA, you are essentially on the doorstep of the campus. For families or multi-generational groups, the W is a “secret weapon” because over half the hotel is made up of suites, including 1 and 2-bedroom configurations with connecting options. And for those who want to be central, you’re perfectly positioned right off the 405, making it an easy jump to the beaches of Santa Monica or the shopping of Century City. Whether you’re sipping a perfectly mixed Vesper at the bar or waking up to views of the Los Angeles skyline, the experience feels uniquely “LA”, stylish, spacious, and effortlessly cool.

Need to know

Family tip: If a bathtub is a necessity for your little ones, let's book a 2-bedroom suite, as these are the specific rooms that feature them.

Spa services: It's worth noting that the property doesn't have an on-site spa (they've converted that space into event space), but the pool area is more than enough for a relaxing afternoon.

Views and light: These rooms are flooded with natural light. When booking, I highly recommend asking for a higher floor to maximize those iconic LA skyline views.

Parking: Like most Westside gems, valet parking is the standard here. Factor that into your daily budget if you're planning on a rental car.

Dining: The food is straightforward with some fun fusion “twists” (think tuna on crispy rice and truffle fries). The bar scene is vibrant but sophisticated; perfect for a casual meeting or a pre-dinner cocktail.
