Curator’s statement
I stayed at Hyatt Regency Waikiki for four nights during my visit to O'ahu in February 2026, giving me the opportunity to experience the property as both a guest and a travel advisor. What stood out most was how effortlessly the resort connects travelers to everything Waikiki has to offer, from world-famous beaches and dining to shopping and island adventures. While some Hawai’i resorts feel removed from their surroundings, Hyatt Regency Waikiki places you in the center of the destination, making it easy to fully experience the energy and culture of Oahu. After my stay, I left feeling confident recommending it to travelers who want to spend less time commuting and more time exploring.

Having stayed at Hyatt Regency Waikiki for four nights during my visit to O’ahu, I quickly realized why it remains one of the most popular resorts in Waikiki. Located directly across from the iconic sands of Waikiki Beach, the resort places guests in the heart of Honolulu’s most vibrant neighborhood while also serving as an excellent base for exploring the rest of the island. Unlike some of Hawai’i’s larger destination resorts where guests rarely leave the property, Hyatt Regency Waikiki encourages travelers to immerse themselves in the destination, whether that means spending the day at the beach, exploring Oahu’s natural beauty, or enjoying Waikiki’s dining and nightlife scene.

The resort’s location is undoubtedly its greatest strength. During my stay, I loved being able to walk across the street to Waikiki Beach, browse the shops along Kalakaua Avenue, and enjoy nearby restaurants without ever needing transportation. The International Market Place, Royal Hawaiian Center, and countless dining options are all within easy walking distance. For travelers who want to experience the energy of Waikiki, it is difficult to find a more convenient location.
While Hyatt Regency Waikiki is not designed to be a secluded luxury retreat, it excels at providing a comfortable and well-rounded resort experience in the center of the action. The accommodations are spacious by Waikiki standards, and many rooms offer beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and Diamond Head. When helping clients choose accommodations, I often recommend upgrading to an ocean-view room if possible. Waking up to views of Waikiki Beach and watching the sunset from your private lanai adds another layer to the overall Hawai’i experience.
I particularly recommend Hyatt Regency Waikiki for first-time visitors to Oahu. The resort’s central location makes it easy to explore many of the island’s most popular attractions, including Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, and the North Shore. Travelers who plan to spend their days sightseeing, hiking, snorkeling, or experiencing Oahu’s culture will appreciate returning each evening to the convenience of Waikiki’s restaurants, shopping and beachfront atmosphere.

What ultimately makes Hyatt Regency Waikiki stand out is its ability to deliver the classic Waikiki experience that so many travelers envision when planning a trip to Hawai’i. It offers direct access to one of the world’s most famous beaches, endless opportunities for dining and entertainment, and a location that makes exploring Oahu simple and enjoyable. After spending four nights at the resort myself, I would confidently recommend it to active travelers, first-time Hawai’i visitors, couples and families who want to experience the best of Oahu while staying in the center of it all.
Need to know
Waikiki is one of Hawai’i’s most vibrant destinations, so travelers should expect a livelier atmosphere than they would find at many of the resort areas on Maui, Kaua’i, or the Big Island. While a rental car can be helpful for exploring the island, many guests find they do not need one every day thanks to the resort’s walkable location. If you plan to visit popular attractions such as Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, or Pearl Harbor, I recommend securing reservations as early as possible, as availability can be limited. For the best overall Oah'u experience, consider balancing your time between Waikiki’s beaches, restaurants, and nightlife while also setting aside a few days to explore the North Shore, windward coast, and islands some of the island’s incredible hiking trails and scenic viewpoints.
