Hotel del Coronado: Which Part of The Del Is Right for You
Curator’s statement

When the temperatures started dropping in Texas, we wanted a quick, sun-soaked escape that was easy to get to, relaxing, and by the ocean. We landed at the iconic Hotel del Coronado, just across the bay from San Diego. This legendary beachfront resort recently completed a $550 million restoration, and it absolutely shines.

Where to stay

If you have never been, you should know this: The Del isn’t one hotel, it’s a collection of distinct “neighborhoods,” each offering its own atmosphere, style, and pace. Choosing the right one makes all the difference. We stayed in the Views (and loved it), but here’s how to decide which area fits you best.

The Victorian

  • Best for: Timeless charm, history lovers

The crown jewel, built in 1888 and newly refreshed and reopened in 2025 after a $160 million facelift. Every room is unique, with historic detail balanced by updated comfort. Floral prints, warm wood tones, and marble floors make these rooms feel fresh and nostalgic and create classic romance. Feels like stepping into a storybook. No two rooms are alike.

The Cabanas

  • Best for: Poolside energy and social vibes

Lots of energy here. Steps from the pool and beach, with fire-pit terraces and a breezy SoCal feel. Bright, modern, and effortless. Perfect for girlfriend trips, group fun, or families who want to be in the center of the action.

The Views

  • Best for: Ocean lovers and active travelers

Beachfront rooms with front-row Pacific views, and where I stayed this most recent trip. Light coastal design, walk-in showers, balconies in every room. Surf lessons, sailing, bike rentals—everything is right outside your door.

Beach Village

  • Best for: Privacy, luxury, and elevated service

A resort within the resort. Private pools, dedicated concierge, access to Windsor Beach Club, multi-bedroom villas, and beautifully renewed coastal interiors. This is where we place clients celebrating something special. It’s refined, private, and polished. Our top recommendation.

Shore House

  • Best for: Residential-style comfort with luxury perks

The newest addition. The villas feature full kitchens, fireplaces, airy coastal design, and a gorgeous private pool and dining space. It feels elevated and exclusive, but with a relaxed, home-like ease. The only downside: balconies are close together, so privacy is limited. But otherwise? Heaven.

Why The Del is worth it

Few resorts blend history, style, beachfront beauty, and California ease quite like this. Whether you're celebrating or just escaping for a few slow days by the sea, The Del feels timeless.

Where to dine

ENO offers artisan pizza. Serea offers daily breakfast and ultimate sea-to-table dinner cuisine. Enjoy a cocktail and curated bites at Babckock & Story Bar, a pub featuring local microbrews in the historical Laundry Building, or toes-in-the-sand fun at Beach & Taco Shack. Nobu brings its iconic Japanese-Peruvian cuisine to the shores and the Sun Deck is the ultimate destination for craft cocktails and coastal views. Plenty of space around the fire pit and front-row views for the most spectacular sunset.

What to do

Unleash your inner child with ROAST, a signature program featuring a bonfire on the beach, beach chairs, blankets, and an à la carte menu of s'mores, artisan pizza, and more. Take part in a selection of fitness classes, or spend an afternoon at surf school. Bike rentals are plenty for exploring Coronado Island. Unwind on a daybed or soak up the sun at the lively Cabana Pool. The Spa at The Del features massages, facials, and body treatments designed with ocean ingredients. Golf at one of the nearby courses. Sail or water-ski off the coast. There are plenty of boutique shops along Coronado’s main street, and if you have time, visit the iconic San Diego Zoo, one of the most celebrated wildlife parks in the world.

Want help choosing your “neighborhood”?

I’ll match you to the best fit plus secure extra perks like:
