From Day Trip to Destination: Woodinville Wine Country Finally Has a Hotel Worth Staying For

Curator’s statement
I've been coming to Woodinville for years, and this past trip was the first time I actually stayed. The Somm Hotel & Spa opened in fall 2025 and it changed how I think about the whole area—instead of a quick Saturday jaunt from Seattle, it became a proper weekend. Thirty minutes from the city, but it felt like we'd actually gone somewhere.

Woodinville has always had the wine. What it lacked—until now—was a reason to linger. The Somm Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection, which opened in September 2025, finally gives this wine country town the luxury basecamp it’s been missing. The 164-room property sits right in the heart of town and was built with the destination in mind: from its wine-forward aesthetic to The Shed, the rooftop bar with panoramic views of the valley, Mt. Rainier, and Chateau Ste. Michelle in the distance. It turns Woodinville into a real destination rather than just a quick day trip. The Vino Spa on property is also fantastic for a full reset between tastings.

The Shed alone is worth planning your afternoon around. Open daily, with live music Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., the rooftop offers seasonal small plates and craft cocktails with views that make it hard to leave. Weekday happy hour runs from 3 to 5 p.m. and is ideal if you want to skip the weekend crowds and just relax.

For the wine, you can't miss DeLille Cellars, located in the Hollywood District in the beautifully repurposed old Red Hook Brewery building. DeLille is a Woodinville institution for Bordeaux-style blends; they aren't a secret, but their reputation is completely earned. Their wine blending experience is the standout: interactive, genuinely educational, and a lot of fun. Also worth a stop: Patterson Winery, a smaller family operation with a great local feel. And yes, there's whiskey too—Woodinville Whiskey Co. is a legitimate reason to peel away from the wine tasting rooms for an hour. Their barrel-aged bourbon has a massive following for a reason.

One of my favorite things to do is rent bikes and ride the Sammamish River Trail between wineries instead of driving. It's flat, scenic, and slows down the pace of the day. For live music, head to Matt's Winery—it's unpretentious, festive, and the kind of spot where everyone seems to know each other by the second glass. For dinner, Hollywood Tavern is a classic: great patio, Pacific Northwest menu, and excellent neighborhood energy. If you want something more casual, Vivi Pizzeria—housed in an old firehouse with massive ceilings—does wood-fired pizza that is perfect after a full day of wine.

Need to know
Book DeLille Cellars' blending experience in advance—it sells out on weekends. The same goes for any chef's counter dining at The Somm.
Woodinville is about 30 minutes northeast of Seattle, making it an easy weekend getaway without a long travel day on either end. That said, if you're planning a full day of tastings, arrange a car service or rideshare ahead of time. The Hollywood District (where DeLille, Patterson, and Vivi are) is the most walkable cluster once you're there.
The Somm is the first true luxury hotel in Woodinville proper and is already seeing high weekend demand from Seattle—book early if you're targeting a Friday or Saturday in summer.
