Egypt is a trip I’ll never forget, and Al Moudira was one of those places that completely exceeded my expectations. Tucked among palm groves on Luxor’s quiet west bank, it’s a hotel where every detail has been thoughtfully considered—from the lush gardens and beautiful Moorish architecture to the candlelit courtyards and warm Egyptian hospitality. I could have spent hours simply wandering the property. If you’re planning a trip to Egypt, I’d put Al Moudira at the very top of your list. It’s just minutes from the Valley of the Kings, yet it feels like a secluded oasis you’ll be talking about long after you return home.

Each of the property’s 54 suites has a stunning Hamman-style bathroom, which makes each one feel more like a private residence than a hotel room. No two rooms at Al Moudira are alike—each individually designed with hand-painted ceilings, antique furnishings, intricate tilework, and curated art. I could have spent hours on end relaxing in our suite’s sitting room looking out over the garden.

Wandering the property’s gardens, courtyards, and hidden terraces is an experience in itself. My favorite part of the day was the beautiful and expansive inclusive breakfast every morning in the courtyard, followed by a walk in the gardens with views of the neighboring local farmland.

Best time to go
October to April, when cooler temperatures make exploring Luxor’s temples and tombs much more enjoyable. Plan on three to four nights to experience both banks of the Nile without rushing, with early mornings for the archaeological sites and plenty of time to enjoy Al Moudira itself.
Best for
Couples, families with older children, small groups, history lovers, and adventurous travelers. Staying on Luxor’s quieter west bank puts you close to the Valley of the Kings while offering a peaceful escape from the busier east bank; Al Moudira can also arrange guides and excursions, and offers a twice-daily shuttle into Luxor.
