Curator’s statement

The Tasman is a seamless blend of Hobart's rich history and contemporary elegance, where the warmth and knowledge of the dedicated staff enhance every aspect of your experience. During my site inspection in July of 2024, I witnessed how the meticulous restoration of the Georgian sandstone and Art Deco elements coexist with modern luxury, creating a uniquely beautiful atmosphere.

Room categories

The Tasman offers a diverse range of room categories, each thoughtfully designed to cater to every type of traveler. Each wing of the property has its own distinctive theme, with options ranging from well-appointed standard rooms to luxurious suites. Many rooms boast stunning views, elegant furnishings, and unique advantages that enhance the guest experience.

The bath amenities feature Tasmanian ingredients crafted by exclusive partnerships with the local brand Beauty and the Bees and the Australian brand Grown Alchemist, while the beverage options highlight exclusive collaborations with Tasmanian wineries & distilleries.

Signature suites

  • St. David's Park Suite (Heritage Wing): Overlooking Hobart's picturesque St. David’s Park, this suite is the highlight of the hotel’s Heritage wing. The room radiates comfort and elegance, evoking the cozy atmosphere of a classic hunting lodge, with a heritage fireplace, exposed sandstone walls, and original local artwork contributing to its character. The high ceiling, constructed from Baltic pine—the same wood used as ballast on the first tall ships to reach Hobart—adds to the room’s historic and welcoming appeal. The bathroom also houses an incredible all-wood bathtub!

  • Pavilion Suites (Pavilion Wing): Spacious and bright, these two corner suites pay tribute to Hobart’s maritime history through both their design and stunning views. Expansive windows frame the Hobart waterfront and River Derwent, while an elegant palette of blues and grays is enhanced by original artworks.

  • Aurora Suite (Pavilion Wing): Located in the contemporary Pavilion building, this 108-square-meter rooftop suite epitomizes modern luxury. Stepping into the room will leave you speechless as you take in the uninterrupted waterfront views, an expansive terrace featuring a sandstone and glass fire pit, and a spacious bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub. Any photos you see of the room may probably not do it justice.

Other suites

In addition to the signature suites, there are two suites (Heritage Suite & Heritage Studio Suite) located within the Heritage wing. These suites are ideal if you prefer a separate bedroom and include a dedicated meeting space, perfect for hosting or business needs.

Guest rooms

The variety of rooms across different themes, sizes, and layouts ensures that guests have plenty of options to choose from. I stayed in the Water View Panoramic room, a larger-sized room which offered stunning harbor views (sunrises were an added bonus), a luxurious full marble bathroom, and modern tech amenities that are often overlooked in many properties. And personally preferred it over the Pavilion suites given the views.

The other rooms that you can stay at are the City View Panoramic, City View, Heritage, Pavilion, etc. Some of these provide great city views of historic Hobart with their own balconies.
