3 Nights at the Miyako City Osaka Hommachi

Tucked into Osaka’s Honmachi district, Miyako City Osaka Hommachi ended up being one of the best value hotels of our entire Japan trip. In fact, it was the least expensive hotel we stayed at, yet it felt more upscale than several properties that cost significantly more. The hotel sits in a quieter part of the city, which made it a great place to come back to after long days of sightseeing. The lobby was always calm and peaceful, and despite being in central Osaka, the overall atmosphere felt relaxed rather than hectic.

We stayed in a Superior Hollywood Twin Room on the 12th floor, and the room felt surprisingly spacious by Japan standards. The large bathroom was a standout feature, with a separate shower room and soaking tub, and the balcony provided extra space along with nice city views. One feature I didn’t fully appreciate until researching other Osaka hotels is that every guest room includes a private balcony, which is uncommon in the city. Being on a higher floor also made for an exceptionally quiet stay with very little street noise. One small but memorable detail was the complimentary lounge and drink station. Particularly, the matcha machine, which produced better iced matcha lattes than many I’ve had back home in the United States.

Everything felt so clean

The location was another major selling point. Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station is only a couple of minutes away on foot, while additional subway connections are within about a ten-minute walk. We found ourselves walking to Dotonbori in roughly 20 minutes, which allowed us to enjoy the area’s energy without having to stay directly in it. Umeda is easily reached by subway, and the hotel’s central location made it simple to explore different parts of Osaka. Practical conveniences are everywhere as well, including a 7-Eleven directly across the street and FFF Coffee nearby, which became our preferred afternoon pick-me-up spot.

The hotel also includes several thoughtful touches that make traveling easier. Complimentary self-service luggage storage lockers in the lobby felt secure and were especially useful on arrival and departure days. An optional Chinese-inspired breakfast buffet is available, but I would personally recommend skipping it and spending that money at one of the nearby cafés instead. While there is no gym or pool, travelers looking for a quiet, comfortable base in Osaka with excellent transit access, larger-than-expected rooms, and a price point that feels almost too good for what you get will likely be just as impressed as we were.

Almost no one talks about the unique and energetic thrifting neighborhood of America-mura in Osaka, not far from this hotel. It’s filled with younger locals and funky thrift stores. You cannot skip this neighborhood!
