Seven Nights on the Norwegian Getaway
Curator’s statement

From July 27 to August 3, 2025, I was part of a birthday group trip that sailed on the Norwegian Getaway to Bermuda. The Norwegian Getaway belongs to the Breakaway class cruise ship and can hold almost 4,000 people. It was last refurbished in 2024. Though I was one of the organizers, as well as the travel advisor for this trip, I was skeptical about it. Along with the myth of the Bermuda Triangle, I wondered what a seven-night trip with just one stop in Bermuda, where we would spend three days at the Royal Naval Dockyard, would look like. I feared that those in my group and I might find this very boring, but it proved otherwise. It was simply phenomenal. I loved every day of the trip.

Embarkation day was orderly and flawless to a large extent. Unfortunately, someone in my group was not allowed onto the ship for not having a physical copy of his driver’s license.

Our stateroom was spacious enough and clean. We also had a walk-in shower. We had over 150 minutes of internet service (as part of the perks awarded to our group) which though not sufficient, helped our group's cohesiveness.

We loved to eat at the Garden Cafe buffet on the 15th deck. The food was varied and delicious. As a group, we did one specialty dining at the Teppanyaki restaurant, which was a blast. We also ate as a group at three complimentary restaurants: Savoy, Taste, and the Tropicana. I must tell you though that there is a fee for booking seating arrangements ahead of time.

There was a whole lot of nightlife, but, being early birds, we attended their 7 pm shows at the theater, which were great and similar to Broadway shows. These shows were done twice in the evenings, at 7 pm and at 9 pm.

The gym and spa are very well equipped and are both located on the 15th deck forward, close to each other. I spent time in the mornings at the gym working out. There is also a race track for joggers.

Children are well catered to, giving parents and their caregivers leisure time away from their kids. Children have youth clubs and various activities. The Splash Academy is for ages 3 to 12, Entourage is for ages 13 to 17, and there’s a teen lounge with movies and games. All parents need to do is to register and sign their kids in. There is also the Guppies section for babies who are 6 months to 3 years old—a play area where parents can spend some relaxing and playful moments with their babies. There are lots of water rides for the kids and the young at heart—for example, the Free Fall.

The Free Fall

I could go on and on—there is so much to do on the ship. On land, Bermuda is a lovely place with lots of history and exciting tales. There were so many tours. We got to do a few, but the most exciting was viewing the coral reefs from a glass-bottom boat. Disembarkation from the ship was also very well organized.

We had a great time on the Norwegian Getaway. It is so important to have all travel documents in order before the day of the cruise. Also, it is important to download the cruise’s app so that you can stay abreast of all that’s going on during the cruise.

Need to know

Bermuda is a great destination, but all travelers from the US should note that while their driver’s license and birth certificate could suffice for this trip, they will need to ensure that they have the physical copies on them.
