As a luxury travel advisor, I believe a resort should not only meet but exceed expectations—and Rosewood Mandarina absolutely did. My sister and I brought our kids and it was such a lovely trip. The jungle-meets-the-ocean setting is beautiful, the people are wonderful, and the service was possibly the best I’ve ever experienced—which is remarkable for such a new hotel. I truly didn’t want to leave and already look forward to returning.

The resort is thoughtfully designed, with four pools layered along the beach—two for families and two for adults—and beautifully designed cabanas. We especially loved dining at La Cocina, where you can enjoy open-air pavilions or sit with your toes in the sand (our favorite).

The rooms are spacious and are all considered suites, starting at a studio suite. We were given a complimentary upgrade but I actually opted to keep our entry-level room as I love a garden, and our backyard beckoned me with our own pool (too large to consider just a plunge pool). Some of my favorite moments were evenings spent with my daughter, listening to music and chatting while relaxing in our pool after dinner.

Mandarina offers horseback riding, ziplining, and even their own pineapple fields. A highlight for my daughter and nephews was experiencing a baby turtle release—it’s something I had always wanted to be a part of, and the timing happened to work out on this particular trip.
