Curator’s statement
Kika’s Homemade Food in Cyprus was my first spot in Cyprus and instantly became one of my favorite finds on the island. Kika and her daughter welcomed me like family, and every plate tasted like it had a story—fresh, flavorful, and made with so much love. I left not only full and happy, but with a jar of their homemade marmalade to bring back to Canada, which felt like taking a little piece of Cyprus home with me. I can’t recommend this spot enough.

Kika’s Homemade Food is a true hidden gem in Cyprus, where you’re welcomed like family the moment you walk in. Run by Kika, her daughter, and her grandson, who makes the most incredible eggs, this cozy spot is all about fresh and seasonal cooking. Think warm honey bread, moist banana bread, an array of homemade marmalades, perfectly grilled halloumi, marinated olives, tasty mushrooms, and comforting slow-cooked dishes. Every bite feels like a little love of tradition. If you’re lucky, you might even leave with a jar of marmalade (mine made it all the way back to Canada).

After your meal, you can walk through Kika’s garden, soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and snapping amazing photos with sweeping views of the valley. More than just a meal, it’s a genuine, heartwarming experience, perfect for couples, families, or solo travelers who want to taste the real Cyprus and connect with the people who make it so special.

I based myself in Paphos, which turned out to be the perfect mix of history, amazing beaches, and total vacation vibes. My mornings started with strong Cypriot coffee by the harbor, and my evenings ended with sunsets that looked like they’d been painted just for me. In between, I wandered through the old town, exploring crumbling ruins like the Archeological Site of Paphos.

One of the days, I headed out on a day trip to Larnaca, but made a little detour to the Choirokoitia settlement, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest Neolithic villages in the Mediterranean. Walking through the circular stone houses, I tried to picture what life would’ve been like here thousands of years ago. Larnaca itself was all palm lined promenades, pretty churches, and sunny cafés perfect for a long, lazy lunch.

Another day I made my way to Limassol, which has this great mix of old-town charm and modern, shiny marina life. I visited tiny boutique stores, and just soaked in the city’s easygoing energy. Whether you’re exploring ancient sites, sipping wine in a taverna, swimming at the beach, or doing a wine tour, Cyprus is an easy country to fall in love with.
Need to know
Kika’s Garden Homemade Food is one of those hilltop gems in Cyprus you’ll be talking about long after your trip. You’ll need a car to get there, and you need to book ahead since they prepare everything according to the number of people visiting. Portions are huge, so ordering a brunch to share is perfect for two (and leaves room to sample more dishes!).
