Here is what I would recommend doing on your magical day with your little ones. First, start by picking up breakfast at Eataly near the Flatiron District. There are so many choices there, you will be able to find something that works for everyone. Then, go and enjoy it in Madison Square Garden while the kids run around and enjoy the playground.

At 10 a.m., it's time for the Harry Potter store, which is more like a museum. The kids will be able to see the wand collection, check out the candy area, fly on a broom, and so much more. I am not going to lie—my daughter always spends around two hours here when we are visiting with her cousin. Before leaving, don't forget your cup of butterbeer and a magical snack, because next is a walk on Broadway up to Herald Square.

Once at Herald Square, after looking around the little shops, you can finally have lunch. Grab an empanada or a hot dog and enjoy the window displays. Macy's often has great displays, especially for Christmas and springtime. Then, it's time to go up Sixth Avenue to the public library! Many people admire it from outside, but I guarantee it's worth bringing the kiddos inside. The treasure exhibition is small and short but will surely interest the children, as it includes the teddy bear that inspired Winnie the Pooh. The library interior also feels magical on its own. If you are lucky enough to be around during the holiday season, their Christmas tree is one of the best in town.

After the library, it's shopping time! Walk up Fifth Avenue to Rockefeller Center, where you can find the famous FAO Schwartz toy store, Nintendo store, or American Girl and step on the spot where the Christmas tree stands (or admire it, if it is the season). To end the day, get up to the Top of the Rock to admire the city and enjoy sunset. I guarantee you a truly magical day, and the only thing you have to book is tickets for the Top of the Rock!

Need to know

If the weather is nice, take a break in Bryant Park and enjoy the sun before the public library. Also on the way up Sixth Avenue, there is a little shop called the New York Tile Factory that is worth the detour. If it is the holiday season, this walking tour will bring you to some of the most decorated shops, including the Saks light show, so take your time and enjoy.
