Curator’s statement
I just wrapped up six days hiking the Cotswolds with Backroads, and it was pure magic. I spent my mornings on easy, scenic trails—stumbling on hidden manor houses and wildflower meadows—and my afternoons soaking up spa treatments and delicious farm-to-table meals. Everything felt effortless, from smooth shuttle rides to tag-and-go luggage, so I could focus on the views and genuine downtime. This trip showed me you really can have big adventures and ultimate comfort in one package.

I just got back from six days wandering the Cotswolds with Backroads, and I’m still buzzing from the perfect balance of fresh-air exploration and just-right pampering. Each morning, I slipped into six to nine miles of wildflower-strewn trails, where I stumbled upon hidden Elizabethan manors, chatted with a family historian in oak-beamed great halls, and even got up close with the king’s own Belted Galloways thanks to an archaeologist-led walk.

Afternoons felt equally indulgent. I sank into lavender-scented spa soaks, clinking garden-fresh cocktails as the light faded behind honey-stone walls. Farm-to-table dinners in cozy village pubs became a highlight ritual—no pretension, just genuinely good food served by locals who clearly love what they do. Evenings ended in plush beds, the perfect reward for days spent exploring.

My home bases couldn’t have been more charming. Calcot & Spa gave me that classic country-manor feel—airy rooms, bubbling hot tubs tucked into lavender courtyards, and enough on-site treats (like a playful ropes course) to keep the mood light. Then I moved on to THE PIG, where underfloor heating, garden-cocktail bars, and an intimate potting-shed spa made the last two nights feel like a boutique retreat.

If you want something gentler, the Dolce Tempo option swaps longer hikes for shorter strolls, e-bike excursions, and extra vehicle support—all while keeping those same luxe hotels and insider experiences. Whether you’re an avid walker who hates tents or someone who wants active days without sacrificing comfort, this trip nails it. Lace up, breathe deep, and let the Cotswolds work its magic.

Need to know
You only need to bring your daypack and personal gear—Backroads provides everything else, from walking poles and mid-hike snacks to water, maps, and on-trail support vans. Every detail is thoughtfully covered, so you can focus on the views instead of logistics.
