Hotel Yellowstone: An Adults-Only Quiet Luxury Mountain Retreat in Jackson Hole
Curator’s statement

I visited Hotel Yellowstone for its first winter season and was completely taken by the beauty around me. The property sits perched above the rugged Snake River Valley with the jagged peaks of the Grand Tetons enveloping you at every turn. Days spent skiing were balanced by restorative moments back at the hotel with long spa sessions, quiet mornings, and evenings by the fire in our room. Cue the nervous system reset! For a winter ski trip that also prioritizes rest, privacy, and a quieter way to celebrate the festive season, Hotel Yellowstone felt exactly right.

Where to stay in Jackson Hole

Location

Hotel Yellowstone is conveniently located about 25 minutes from the Jackson Hole airport, 15 minutes from the charming town of Jackson, and 15 minutes from Teton Village for skiing. It also serves as a fantastic base for exploring Yellowstone National Park. For this trip, I would recommend renting a 4x4 car to explore safely in winter, especially since the road to Hotel Yellowstone is winding and can get icy.

Pro tip: Most rental car companies cannot guarantee 4x4 rentals, but Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals has a great variety of 4x4 SUV vehicles and is just five minutes outside of town.

Suites & design

Hotel Yellowstone doesn’t announce its luxury. It simply delivers it, quietly and effortlessly. Rustic exteriors are paired with minimalist black-and-white alpine interiors, subtly accented by ranch-inspired details like cowboy hats, horseshoes, and horse-branding motifs that ground the design firmly in place. Every space is intentionally oriented outward, allowing the snow-blanketed valley and Tetons to remain the true focal point.

The property is intentionally intimate, with just 36 suite accommodations to enhance privacy. Each suite is approximately 600 square feet and is designed to feel both expansive and cocooning. Pitched ceilings heighten the sense of space and private balconies extend the experience outdoors, while fireplaces and lounge areas with sheepskin rugs cozy up the room. Every suite includes a freestanding bathtub with accordion-style doors that open to the bedroom so that you can take in mountain views while you soak. Suite categories vary only by view, and I can attest that all of them have stunning views.

Reflection Suite

It’s the details that really take the rooms to the next level. Each suite is outfitted with an iPad that controls lighting, temperature, and shades, allowing you to tailor the space to your mood with minimal effort. Two huge closets with LED lighting flank the entry hallway, along with the most gorgeous mini bar that’s stocked daily to prepare you for any adventure. The Calcutta marble bathrooms have heated floors, motion-censored night lights, and premium amenities like a Dyson hair dryer, Toto toilet, and Byredo bath products. And as someone who takes hotel robes seriously, I can say this one delivers (and perhaps will be your most used layer on this trip).

Pro tip: Do not miss sunrise here! It’s absolutely incredible, and you’ll have a perfect view from your balcony.

Amenities that elevate the experience

Aside from the gorgeous setting and beautifully architected experience, what stands out most are the guest-only amenities and service. In boutique hotels, it's easy to feel over-waited on, but the staff has managed to strike the delicate balance of attentiveness and privacy so that the experience is entirely your own.

Dining is reserved exclusively for guests, reinforcing the sense of intimacy that defines the property. Mornings begin with a complimentary breakfast at Olivia’s, Hotel Yellowstone’s signature restaurant, with an iconic A-frame dining room and sweeping mountain views. Guests can order everything from fresh juices and smoothies to poached eggs, steak, and chef-curated seasonal dishes. The hotel will also accommodate breakfast to-go if you’re planning on heading out early for skiing or other activities. Afternoons seamlessly transition into daily canapés and a rotating wine selection served in the living room. Dinner follows in the restaurant, and food and beverage service is available throughout the hotel, so there’s never a need to leave your corner of comfort unless you choose to.

Wellness is woven seamlessly into the experience at Hotel Yellowstone. The pool, sauna, gym, and spa are tucked just below the main living space, creating a discreet sanctuary removed from the hotel’s common areas. With 24/7 access, guests can ease into an early morning sauna session or unwind with a late-night swim entirely on their own schedule.

The infinity pool is the crown jewel of the property, kept at a warm 90 degrees and framed by retractable floor-to-ceiling windows that open directly to the mountains. On clear days, the water mirrors snow-capped peaks; during snowfall, it feels as though you’re suspended inside a snow globe. The outdoor sauna sits just steps away, creating the perfect après-ski pairing, while the spa offers two private treatment rooms with a full menu of services, including red light and salt therapy. Plus, there are heated pathways around the hotel, so you'll never have to trudge through snow to get back to your cozy suite.

For skiers, complimentary transfers to Teton Village simplify the day with service running at 8 a.m., 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. Door-to-door service with pickup and drop-off means no parking logistics, no base-area stress, and an easy return to calm at day’s end. Hotel Yellowstone also offers ski and boot storage on-site.

Pro tip: If you're renting ski gear, I recommend Ski Butlers. Their ski concierge will come directly to the hotel, outfit you on the spot, and pick up your gear at the hotel at the end of your stay. It is the fastest and most convenient way to ensure you're spending your time on the mountain and not in rental lines. If you travel with your own gear and your boot bag and ski bag weigh less than 50 pounds, most major airlines will consider this one bag, saving you hefty checked bag fees.

Is Hotel Yellowstone worth it for ski season?

Short answer: Absolutely.

Winter at Hotel Yellowstone is intentionally quieter, making it an ideal option for skiers who value a high-end, design-forward retreat without sacrificing convenience. While Hotel Yellowstone is not ski-in/ski-out, it offers a more relaxed alternative to Teton Village, with seamless access by car and a far more private atmosphere. You’re also still minutes into the charming town of Jackson, where shopping and dining are just as essential to the experience as time on the slopes.

Jackson Hole has world-class skiing with some of the steepest pitches in North America, and a larger average snowfall than neighboring resorts. While there is a variety of terrain, this mountain is more suited for intermediate and expert skiers. You can expect long runs, scenic traverses, wide bowls, and narrow chutes. The mountain increases in difficulty as you move left, if you’re looking at the mountain.

Après-ski

When you're ready to unbuckle your boots, these are some of my go-to après spots.

  • Corbet's Cabin: Historic cabin at the top of the mountain serving all-day waffles with a side of panoramic views. The Belgian waffles are a must. Believe me, you’ll need the carbs for the route down through Rendezvous Bowl.

  • Handle Bar at the Four Seasons: Elevated pub fare at the base of the mountain with fire pits overlooking the slopes. It gets busy around lunchtime, so put your name in early and squeeze in a run while you wait.

  • Corsa at Caldera House: Chic, cozy Italian right on the mountain, ideal if you’re transitioning from ski day to dinner without heading back to town. Excellent pastas and pizzas, strong cocktails, and a design-forward setting.

  • Mangy Moose: An après classic at the base of Teton Village. Lively, eclectic, and unapologetically local, with multiple levels and a casual sports-bar energy. Come for the atmosphere, wings, and beers.

  • Million Dollar Cowboy Bar: An iconic stop in downtown Jackson Hole, known for its Western character and saddle barstools. Best later in the evening, once you’ve traded ski boots for cowboy boots and are ready for a true Jackson Hole institution.

Need to know

Hotel Yellowstone is a distinctly unique, adults-only retreat best suited for travelers seeking privacy, calm, and a more design-forward mountain experience. This is a must-stay for couples, wellness lovers, and skiers looking for quiet luxury. For families or travelers set on a ski-in/ski-out experience, Four Seasons Jackson Hole and Caldera House are excellent alternatives, located directly on the mountain in Teton Village. In winter, beyond skiing, the hotel can arrange snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and guided Yellowstone wildlife safaris. Summer and fall bring a different kind of magic with vibrant foliage, hiking, fly fishing, and scenic drives through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
