Our stay at Thompson Austin was short but memorable—less than 24 hours of stylish city living in the heart of downtown. We chose Thompson for its vibrant rooftop dining scene and convenient walkability to the best of Austin’s energy, right off 6th Street and close to the Convention Center and local nightlife.

Modern comfort with downtown views. A calm, stylish retreat that makes even a one-night stay feel intentional.
After checking in, we grabbed lunch at 5th Street Diner, a classic American diner with retro charm and hearty fare—a perfect midday bite before settling in.
Later, we headed up to Arriba Abajo, the hotel’s rooftop cantina known for its indoor-outdoor ambiance, crafted cocktails, and scenic views of the downtown skyline. I started with the ahi tuna crudo—light, fresh, and colorful—then enjoyed the radicchio beet salad with chile-ribbed shrimp, which was a standout combination of earthy and bright flavors. Both dishes were perfection and perfectly balanced between refined and playful.

Thompson Austin blends modern architecture with gallery-worthy moments throughout the property.
The hotel itself carries a contemporary, modern design with thoughtful touches and amenities. Guests can relax by the outdoor pool, enjoy cocktails on the rooftop patio, or take advantage of the garden and lounge spaces.

The hotel bathroom at Thompson Austin feels thoughtfully designed and indulgent without trying too hard.
After dinner, we spent the rest of the night in, soaking up the Thompson vibe—comfortable, stylish, and laid-back, with panoramic views surrounding us when the lights came on. Even in a short stay, the hotel left a strong impression of downtown luxury and authentic Austin energy.

Minimal, modern, and effortlessly calm—very Thompson Austin.
