Curator’s statement
Four Seasons Chiang Mai is one of those places that seems to operate outside of time. Tucked in the Mae Rim Valley, just 30 minutes from the bustle of Chiang Mai’s Old City, this resort immediately pulled me into its rhythm — slow, graceful, and deeply restorative.

Why I recommend it
When I first stepped into my Upper Rice Terrace Pavilion, the view left me speechless: a panorama of emerald rice paddies, water buffalo wading through the fields, and mist curling over the surrounding mountains. It was like stepping into a dream.
What stood out most wasn’t just the setting, though. It was the service — intuitive and genuinely warm. One morning I mentioned my interest in Thai herbs during breakfast. That same afternoon, a staff member invited me to join a spontaneous, off-menu garden walk where I learned to crush lemongrass and galangal for tea. That’s Four Seasons magic.

Insider tips
Best rooms: The Upper Rice Terrace Pavilions are my personal favorite for their elevated views and added privacy. The plunge pool villas are wonderful too, but the vistas from the terraces are hard to beat.
Wellness moments: Book the early morning yoga session on the rice field deck — the stillness, the cool air, and the sound of birds make it almost meditative.
Cultural connection: Don’t miss the monk offering ceremony at sunrise. It’s a quiet, beautiful ritual and a reminder of Northern Thailand’s spiritual richness.
Culinary pick: At Khao, the resort’s Thai restaurant, I still dream about the gaeng hang lay (a Northern-style pork curry). Ask the staff to pair it with a local craft beer — they have a surprising selection.
Who it's perfect for
Ideal for honeymooners, wellness seekers, and culture lovers who want the serenity of nature without sacrificing luxury. Also great for families — I saw children happily planting rice and learning Muay Thai in the kids’ club while their parents sipped cocktails by the infinity pool.

Final thought
Four Seasons Chiang Mai isn’t just a hotel — it’s a portal to Northern Thai culture, nature, and stillness. It’s the kind of place that quietly stays with you, long after you’ve left.

Need to know
Chiang Mai is a year-round destination, but the cooler, drier months from November to February are especially lovely. The resort is about 45 minutes from the airport, and transfers are seamless when arranged in advance. While it’s tempting to stay on property the whole time, I recommend venturing out for a visit to the Old City, the Sunday Night Market, or a mindful elephant sanctuary. Pack light layers and resort wear—mornings and evenings can be cooler in the mountains.
