My Guide to Princess Cruises’ Newest Ship: The Star Princess
Curator’s statement

When my husband and I boarded Princess Cruises’ newest ship, the Star Princess, for her inaugural North American sailing from Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades), we knew we were about to experience something special. As a travel advisor and longtime cruiser, I’ve seen my fair share of ships, but this one truly wowed me from the moment we stepped aboard!

The Star Princess is the second of Princess Cruises’ new Sphere Class ships, joining her sister ship, the Sun Princess. Measuring 1,133 feet long and accommodating up to 4,300 guests, she’s large, modern, and absolutely stunning! Everywhere you turn, you’re treated to panoramic ocean views, contemporary design, and elegant spaces that make it hard to believe you’re at sea.

The circular Piazza, the heart of the Star Princess, immediately caught our attention with its floor-to-ceiling digital screen and a dazzling “star” light fixture on the ceiling. This welcoming space sets the tone for the ship: modern yet timeless, open yet cozy.

As we explored, it became clear that Princess Cruises designed this ship with views in mind. Glass walls, open decks, and bright interiors make the ocean almost a constant companion wherever you go.

The Lido Deck is where guests naturally gravitate for sunshine, swimming, and relaxation. Two sparkling swimming pools are separated by a bridge, surrounded by four large hot tubs, two on each side. Overhead, a massive 300-square-foot LED screen plays live concerts, sporting events, and, of course, Princess’ iconic “Movies Under the Stars.” It’s the perfect place to unwind during the day and enjoy open-air entertainment at night.

One of the best parts of any cruise is the food, and the Star Princess dining experience delivers on every level. There are 10 casual and included dining options, and we especially loved Alfredo’s Pizzeria for its fresh, perfectly baked pizzas. If you’re craving something a little more upscale, the ship also features nine specialty dining venues for an additional charge. Throughout the ship, you’ll also find plenty of inviting bars and lounges. We especially enjoyed O’Malley’s Irish Pub, which came alive in the evenings with live music, laughter, and a welcoming pub-style vibe.

My tip: Be sure to book your specialty dining reservations early. These popular venues fill up fast. Ask me about the Princess Premier package, which includes unlimited drinks, specialty dining, and much more!

All of our meals were delicious.

One of my absolute favorite spaces onboard was The Dome. It’s a breathtaking multi-level area that feels like a floating paradise. By day, it’s a serene indoor/outdoor pool area with plenty of comfortable lounge seating and natural light streaming through the glass. At night, The Dome transforms into a spectacular entertainment venue. We attended a Candlelight Concert there, and it was absolutely magical! The soft glow, the music, and the setting made it an unforgettable evening at sea.

If you love unique, immersive entertainment, don’t miss the Spellbound by Magic Castle experience. This upcharge experience ($45 per person) includes two specialty cocktails, access to a beautifully themed bar filled with magical décor, and incredible close-up performances. We were delighted by the card tricks and mentalist show. It was one of the highlights of our cruise.

The Princess Arena, the ship’s main theater, offers wonderful productions that are not to be missed. Two of the featured shows during our sailing were Meridian and Illuminate. Meridian is a touching love story set at sea, combining music, dance, and heartfelt storytelling. Illuminate is an upbeat, circus-inspired show featuring aerialists, comedy, and incredible choreography that had the whole audience laughing and cheering.

My tip: Arrive early to grab the best seats. These shows fill up quickly!
