Barnsley Resort was the perfect vacation for our family. Filled with adventure and relaxation, great food and loads of fun! We stayed in the Inn, but the cottages were also lovely. I started my visit with a tour of the room. The spacious room was perfect for our family of four, and was very functional. It had two closets, a separate bathroom area for the toilet, a Keurig coffee maker with all the supplies, two very comfortable beds, a table and chairs, plus a chair with an ottoman. We never felt like we were on top of each other, which is helpful when you have a pre-teen and a teenager! We freshened up and headed off to explore the grounds.

Barnsley has acres of fun! Our first stop was the garden and the manor house ruins. It was a lovely walk from the inn. It was really nice to see the history of the property. On our way back, we took the long route, stopping by the playground, pool, fitness center and spa! I couldn't believe how beautiful the view was from the pool. You could see the gorgeous rolling hills of the golf course.

On the way back to the inn, we stopped at the outpost, the one-stop shop for all things! We had pre-booked axe throwing and skeet shooting, so we checked in for those activities and found out what else we could do! Here are just a few of the options!

  • Check out bikes (they supply locks and helmets and had a huge assortment for people of all ages)

  • Fishing on the lake (they even provide fishing gear)

  • Golf

  • Horseback riding

  • Farm animal activities

  • Rainy day board games

All the meals we had were delicious, and I really love that there were so many options on site! You truly never have to leave! We bought the bed and breakfast package, which was a great deal! At the Woodlands Grill, you can sit inside our outside for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as at the bar — which has it's own menu. There's also a farm-to-table experience at Rice House and a casual beer garden that has BBQ options!

We went skeet shooting as a family. Our guide Randy was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and patient, especially for my two kids who had never shot a gun before. We had a blast, and were all successful at hitting targets!!! We also enjoyed some axe throwing on site! Our guide for that was also very personable and helpful.

All in all, my family had the best time. There is so much to do, you couldn't possibly do it all in one trip — So I can't wait to go back!

Need to know

This is a great location for couples, solo travelers, families and trips with friends alike! It was like its own city with activities, food and relaxation all at the same place. They happened to be setting up for a wedding while we were there, and I was very impressed. What a cool spot for a wedding!
