Curator’s statement
Raffles Bali is the kind of property that reminds you why you fell in love with travel in the first place. Perched above the gentle curve of Jimbaran Bay, spread across 23 hectares of untouched hillside, and comprising just 32 private villas, it manages something genuinely rare: the grandeur of a world-class resort matched by hospitality that feels personal, unhurried, and completely sincere. This isn’t a property that simply meets expectations—it consistently anticipates them. For clients who want Bali at its most refined without sacrificing soul, this is where I would send them first, every time.

Arrival & first impressions
Arriving at Raffles Bali, the experience begins well before you reach the property itself. The airport escort service is seamlessly orchestrated—you are guided through immigration without friction, then settled into a private limousine stocked with cold water, local juices, and snacks for the 20-minute journey. It is a small gesture, but one that signals clearly the kind of thoughtfulness that defines everything that follows. Upon arrival, guests are greeted at the lobby with live Balinese music and a traditional metirta cleansing ritual—and from that moment on, every member of staff addresses you by name, never once feeling scripted or forced.
General Manager Henri Arnulphy came to our table on the very first evening to introduce himself and check that everything was to our liking. That tone of genuine, senior-level engagement carried through every interaction across the stay. At a property of this scale, such touches are rarely accidental—they speak to a culture of hospitality that runs deep.

The villas
The property is entirely villa-based—all 32 accommodations come with a private infinity pool, and no two feel quite alike. Villas range from the intimate 375-square-meter Hilltop Pool Villa, perched at the resort’s most secluded point for couples seeking absolute privacy, to the spacious 900-square-meter Ocean Front Two-Bedroom Pool Villa, which can connect to neighboring villas to create a compound of up to four bedrooms accommodating 12 guests—a compelling option for multi-generational travel or close groups of friends.

Panoramic Pool Villa
Each villa is beautifully appointed with multiple outdoor seating areas, an al fresco dining terrace, an Illy espresso machine, Dammann Frères tea, and a minibar stocked with complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic drinks—replenished without fail each day. Housekeeping was exceptionally attentive: charging cables neatly coiled, fresh fruit appearing daily, linens consistently immaculate, and bottled water always plentiful. These are the details that separate a hotel that runs well from one that is truly well-cared for.
At the top of the villa categories sits the one-of-a-kind Raffles Presidential Villa—a 900-square-meter retreat with a private kitchen, dedicated 24-hour chauffeur, daily in-villa spa treatments, daily Afternoon Tea, and the resort’s most sweeping sunset views across the bay.

Butler service
Butler service here deserves particular mention, and it is worth preparing clients for just how attentive it is. Every villa is assigned a Raffles Wellbeing Butler who makes contact before arrival, serves as cultural concierge and in-resort chauffeur (no motor vehicles operate beyond the lobby—guests travel by electric buggy throughout the 56-acre estate), and manages every logistical detail of the stay. Our butler, Krishna, had complete command of every reservation and preference we had noted. He proactively confirmed bookings, managed behind-the-scenes coordination, and ensured everything unfolded exactly as planned. Clients regularly cite the butler as the most memorable element of their stay—and based on our experience, that reputation is entirely earned.
Fellow advisors’ clients echo this consistently. One honeymooning couple noted that their butler Endah ensured thoughtful personalized touches not just on arrival, but throughout the entire stay—and that Raffles Bali had permanently redefined their expectations of five-star service. Another guest described how the team remembered small preferences such as coffee orders and breakfast timing, unprompted, across the full length of their visit.
Food & dining
The culinary program is one of Raffles Bali’s strongest suits, anchored by an 80/20 philosophy: 80% of produce is sourced from Indonesian farmers across the archipelago, with herbs, fruits, and vegetables also grown on the resort’s own Farm Terrace garden. Executive Chef Gaetan Biesuz oversees the distinct venues and private dining experiences, each with its own character.

Evening cocktails at The Writer's Bar
Rumari is the signature fine-dining restaurant set at the resort’s highest point with panoramic Indian Ocean views, it serves Southeast Asian cuisine. Its wine cellar of over 250 labels has earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
Loloan Beach Bar & Grill brings a more relaxed energy: fresh seafood from the live grill, wood-fired pizza, Mediterranean-inspired plates, and easy beach-view lunches.
The Writer’s Bar sits on the hilltop with craft cocktails (the signature Bali Sling uses Balinese arak and blue pea tea), a curated book collection and art gallery, and Afternoon Tea presented on bespoke handmade china.
The Lunar New Year dinner during our stay was a particular highlight—a genuinely special evening executed with real care and ceremony.

Setting, gardens & wellness
The resort is built into a hillside above Jimbaran Bay, with lush tropical gardens—alive with spider lilies, ixora blooms, ornamental gingers, and over 100 plant species—cascading down toward the water. More than 70% of the 56-acre estate is preserved greenery, including untouched river corridors, valleys, and cliff faces. Stone-walled water features and tiered ponds add a sense of natural flow throughout the grounds, and the overall feeling is of a private estate rather than a hotel.
Our butler told us that they plant a new tree after wedding ceremonies on the property so the couples can come back time and again to see their tree grow.
The Raffles Spa centers on The Sanctuary, a semi-outdoor treatment suite hidden on a remote hillside with its own aromatic steam room and views across the bay. The 25-meter beachfront infinity pool, two clay tennis and pickleball courts, a 600-meter hiking trail through the botanical gardens, and a private beach with complimentary cabanas round out the recreation options.

Who should stay here
Raffles Bali was made for couples—honeymoons, anniversaries, and the kinds of celebrations that deserve a setting worthy of the occasion. Our butler Krishna told us something that has stayed with us: after every wedding ceremony held on the property, the team plants a tree in the couple’s name. The idea is that they come back, year after year, and watch something grow alongside their marriage. It is the kind of gesture that captures everything this place does well—rooted in sincerity, built for the long-term, and quietly extraordinary.
Beyond couples, the property is an exceptional choice for sophisticated leisure travelers who want intelligent service over spectacle. Multi-generational groups are also well served—interconnecting villas can be configured into a four-bedroom, 1,800-square-meter private compound accommodating up to 12 guests, with a shared pool and the full run of the estate.
What Raffles Bali is not, and makes no pretense of being, is a lively social resort. There is no beach-club energy here, no DJ sets, no lobby buzz. This is a place built for quiet indulgence, real calm, and the profound pleasure of feeling genuinely looked after. It is, simply, one of the best hotels in Bali.
Need to know
Airport transfer: Arrange the hotel’s private limousine transfer in advance rather than arriving independently. The journey is around 20 minutes, and the escort service—which assists with immigration—begins the Raffles experience before you even reach the property.
Spa booking: Schedule treatments as The Sanctuary books up quickly, and fitting in more than one session very much worth planning for.
Special occasions: If a seasonal dinner, cultural event, or private dining experience falls within the stay dates, book it at the time of reservation. These are consistently cited as among the most memorable moments of any visit.
Explore the grounds: The botanical gardens, tiered waterfall features, and hillside walking track reward slow, unhurried exploration—particularly in the early morning.
Villa category guidance: For couples prioritizing maximum seclusion, the Hilltop Pool Villa (375 sqm) offers the most private setting. For the finest ocean views and the most special occasion feel, the Presidential Villa is in a category of its own. For groups or families, the interconnecting Two-Bedroom Villas provide an unrivaled compound experience.
