Curator’s statement
We first stayed at Atlantis Dubai when our boys were two and five, while we were living in Russia and craving sunshine before a long winter. What began as a convenient warm-weather escape quickly became one of our most reliable family destinations. Over the next eight years and four visits, Atlantis truly grew with us—from splash pads and shallow pools to thrill rides, expanded dining experiences, and more independent exploration as the kids got older. It’s rare to find a resort that evolves alongside your family, but Atlantis Dubai has consistently delivered an experience that feels just as exciting at every stage.

We first stayed at Atlantis The Palm when our boys were just two and five, during our time living in Russia and craving sunshine before a long winter. What started as a convenient warm-weather escape quickly became one of our most reliable family destinations. Over the next eight years—and four visits—the resort truly grew with us. The rides changed, the restaurants evolved, the kids became braver and more independent, but the overall experience has remained just as exciting at every stage.

Atlantis is, at its core, a self-contained resort experience. During our first three stays, we didn’t leave the property at all. Between beautiful pools, a swimmable beach, expansive dining options, a massive aquarium, and direct access to one of the region’s largest water parks, there is more than enough to fill your days without ever stepping off-site. We’ve intentionally traveled in November (what locals call “picnic season”), when the weather is warm but manageable, crowds are lighter, and the value tends to be stronger.
The true anchor of the trip—especially as our boys entered their tween years—is Aquaventure Waterpark. Every parent knows our biggest vacation competitor is the screen, and Aquaventure makes devices disappear. We arrive early to beat the heat and lines, hit our favorite slides right away, and then settle into a relaxed rhythm. When the kids were smaller, they happily spent hours in the splash zones under the giant tipping bucket. As they’ve grown taller and braver, we’ve shifted to family raft rides and bigger thrills (Blackout is a standout).

One consistent favorite is the lazy river—a full 20-minute loop with gentle sections and light rapids, where everyone wears a life vest (yes, even adults), adding comfort and safety. The park is clean, well-managed, and inclusive, with abundant seating so you’re not scrambling for towels-and-chairs real estate. A practical bonus: towel stations provide complimentary water slippers, a welcome surprise if you forget proper water shoes. Because resort guests receive unlimited park access, there’s no pressure to “maximize the day.” If someone needs a reset, you simply pause and return later—which completely changes the energy of a family vacation.
Dining is another area where Atlantis shines. Breakfast is typically included and can be enjoyed at either of the large buffets, via room service, or at the Imperial Club (if you’ve booked that level). The buffets are extensive and reliable, arriving early helps avoid crowds. Room service is generous—almost excessively so—and convenient for families who prefer a slower start.
For lunch, we tend to stay close to wherever we’re spending the day—casual options within the water park or relaxed beachside venues near the pools keep things simple. Wavehouse deserves its own mention: bowling, a supervised play area for younger kids, an arcade for older ones, and strong outdoor seating make it a perennial favorite. A daily happy hour (4–7 pm) that doubles arcade credits is a smart value play.

For a more elevated meal, Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen offers an exceptional Saturday brunch (remember: weekends in Dubai are Friday/Saturday) that manages to be festive and family-friendly without feeling chaotic. And Nobu has become our standing date-night tradition—a ritual that’s evolved from booking Kids Club sessions when the boys were small to ordering them room service and letting them enjoy independent downtime as they’ve grown. The recent move to a penthouse setting adds spectacular views to an already memorable meal.
From a logistical standpoint, reservations are worth making—the resort can fill up unexpectedly. The Atlantis app makes booking simple. I also strongly recommend pricing out Imperial Club access. Between included breakfast, a generous 4–7 pm happy hour with quality wine and cocktails, and added perks like airport transfers, the value can be significant—especially when individual drinks at the resort can run $15–$20. Families may also want to explore half-board pricing depending on travel style and dining plans.

On our most recent trip, we finally ventured beyond the property to visit Burj Khalifa. Standing atop one of the tallest buildings in the world is a true bucket-list moment, and pairing it with time at Dubai Mall—with its amusements and family-friendly attractions—makes for an easy half- or full-day excursion. That said, Atlantis functions beautifully as a resort-only trip if your goal is sun, water, and simplicity.
Four visits in, what stands out most is how seamlessly the experience has adapted to our family’s growth. From toddlers under splash buckets to tweens racing down slides and parents savoring date-night sushi, Atlantis Dubai has delivered a vacation that feels energizing without being overwhelming—and that’s a rare balance to find.
Need to know
Go between November–March if you can: “Picnic season” offers warm weather without the intense summer heat, plus better value and fewer crowds.
Make dining reservations: Use the Atlantis app for easy booking—especially for brunch and signature restaurants.
Price out Imperial Club: Breakfast, daily 4–7 pm happy hour, and added perks (like airport transfers) make it a strong value for families.
Start Aquaventure early: Cooler temps and shorter lines make mornings the sweet spot.
Use the unlimited access wisely: The beauty of staying on property is that you can come and go—no need to power through.
Book Kids Club ahead: Especially if you’re planning a date night.
Consider one downtown excursion: Pair Burj Khalifa with time at Dubai Mall if you want a city highlight beyond the resort.
