Curator’s statement
Unico 20°87° is one of my go-to recommendations for couples seeking an elevated all-inclusive experience in Mexico's Riviera Maya. This adults-only boutique resort delivers personalized luxury that feels worlds away from typical all-inclusive properties. Think private butlers, customized minibars, and genuine attention to detail. I recently planned a honeymoon here for a couple who raved about every aspect of their stay, from the bathtub on their private balcony to the exceptional dining across all restaurants. If you want effortless romance, incredible food, and a resort that truly caters to you as individuals, Unico is it.

Unico 20°87° redefines what an all-inclusive resort can be. This intimate, adults-only property features just 448 guest rooms (90 percent with ocean views), creating a boutique feel that's worlds away from massive resort complexes. Every guest is assigned a personal butler (yes, really) who handles everything from unpacking to restaurant reservations to arranging special surprises.
The rooms are stunning: modern, spacious, and designed for romance. My clients always rave about the bathtub on their private balcony overlooking either the ocean or lush grounds. Each room features a customized minibar stocked based on your preferences (submitted before arrival), a personalized scent chosen just for you, and luxury amenities throughout. It's these thoughtful touches that elevate Unico above standard all-inclusive properties.

Dining at Unico is exceptional, which is rare for all-inclusives. The resort offers five distinct restaurants (each with its own bar), plus six standalone bars, including two swim-up bars and even a cigar bar. From authentic Mexican cuisine to fresh seafood to international flavors, the quality rivals standalone restaurants. There's also a coffee shop for morning pick-me-ups and 24-hour room service. Reservations are handled by your butler, so there's no stress about booking or timing.
The wellness and relaxation offerings are outstanding. Indulge in beachside massages (imagine being pampered with ocean breezes and wave sounds) at the resort's spa, which features 18 treatment cabins and the Esencia Wellness program. The property also has three pools, a beauty salon and barber shop, and fitness facilities. There's a sense of calm and sophistication here that honeymoons and romantic getaways require. No kids, no chaos, just couples enjoying each other in a setting that feels both luxurious and laid-back.
Unico is ideal for honeymooners, couples celebrating an anniversary, or any adults seeking a truly elevated all-inclusive experience without the hassle of planning every meal or activity. With its intimate size, personalized service, gourmet dining across multiple venues, and romantic touches at every turn, this is the property for effortless luxury.
Need to know
Location: About 30 minutes south of Cancun Airport in the Riviera Maya, near Playa del Carmen. Easy transfer, beautiful beachfront setting.
Best for: Honeymooners, couples celebrating anniversaries, adults wanting sophisticated all-inclusive luxury. This is NOT a party resort. It's romantic, refined, and peaceful.
What's included: All meals, drinks (premium alcohol included), room service, minibar, butler service, beach/pool service, fitness classes, non-motorized water sports, and more. Spa treatments and off-resort excursions are additional.
Pre-arrival form: Fill out your preferences online before arrival (favorite snacks, drinks, scents, pillow preferences) so your room and minibar are customized for you.
Butler service: Don't be shy; your butler is there to make your stay seamless. Use them for restaurant reservations, special requests, arranging surprises, or anything else you need.
Excursions: While the resort is wonderful, consider booking at least one off-site experience—Tulum ruins, cenote swimming, or a private catamaran—to explore the region. Your butler can arrange these.
Travel tips: Pack resort-casual attire (some restaurants have light dress codes—no swimwear or flip-flops at dinner), sunscreen, and something nice for romantic dinners.
