While on a winter visit to Barcelona, I had the great pleasure of making a site visit to this beautiful hotel. I have visited other Sofitel properties in the past, and find them, without exception, to be exquisitely designed, with every need their guests could have considered. Their Barcelona outpost is no exception.

Guest room

Founded in France, the Sofitel design philosophy is to combine French elegance with local flavor. At this hotel, that philosophy shows in both design and hospitality. The guest rooms have the same attention to luxury that all of the Sofitel properties do, with large, airy spaces and well-appointed amenities. The decor all has the touch of the Mediterranean, with a palate focused on white and blue. One special touch is the Gaudí-designed tile mosaic on the wall over every bed. The building is aligned so that half of the rooms have sea views, while the other half face the city.

Rooftop pool and bar

Lobby level pool and lounge area

The hotel’s outdoor spaces are just as elegant as the indoor, with two areas for poolside lounging. The ground floor is a family-friendly space, with areas one can find tranquility and peace. The rooftop pool, with sweeping views of the seaside, is a great spot for breakfast and lunch, and a DJ and full bar at night for those looking for a party or the perfect spot for a champagne toast.

Lounge and bar at Tendiez

Where this hotel excels beyond many similar properties is in its culinary offerings. I had the pleasure of both breakfast in Syrah Mediterrani, the breakfast room, then later a cocktail in Tendiez, the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was much more than the typical hotel buffet. In keeping with the Sofitel French and local philosophy, they offered an impressive array of decadent pastries, French in technique but with local flavors. The variety of offerings, including an omelet station, is more than enough to please any palate.

Wine room at Tendiez

Chef's table at Tendiez

Tendiez offers an impressive variety of wow experiences. There is a chef’s table around the open-air kitchen, which will delight any foodie. There is also a wine room for group dinners, and a spacious and relaxing restaurant focused on Spanish fine dining. The truly fun surprise was the signature cocktail menu, with each cocktail served in a bespoke, handblown glass. My espresso martini arrived in a Moka Pot with a smoky flourish meant to emulate steam. It was as delicious as it was impressive.

Every step of my visit, the staff throughout the hotel was friendly and accommodating, and eager to make sure I had a good time. The next time I visit Barcelona, I will definitely stay at this gem on the sea.
