Curator’s statement
This Western Caribbean trip on Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady was exactly what our group of five adults needed—just enough time for even our most work-obsessed friends to actually chill out and unwind. Everything felt perfectly balanced, from the incredibly well-kept ship and delicious food (that Lucky Lotus concept? A total win!) to the genuinely friendly crew who made everything so easy. Plus, being on an adults-only ship meant pure relaxation by the pool and no worries about little fingers in the buffet. Those hammocks on the Sea Terrace balconies? Definitely everyone's favorite spot for soaking in those endless ocean views.

Stepping onto Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady immediately sets a different tone, one that perfectly mixes sleek design with a fun, cheeky attitude. This isn't your typical cruise line—and honestly, that's a huge part of its charm. Being adults-only means the brand can really lean into that "professional with a side of sass" vibe, which you'll spot in playful details like "let's get nauti" wristbands or the cleverly named "Lick Me Till I Scream" ice cream parlor. But don't worry, this freedom just translates into a super relaxed atmosphere where everyone can truly be themselves without things getting out of hand. The ship's public spaces were always spotless and really comfortable.
And the entertainment on the Scarlet Lady? Seriously top-notch. Our group was completely blown away by how talented and enthusiastic the performers were. A huge highlight was "Duel Reality," an amazing acrobatic show that reimagines Romeo & Juliet in a way you just wouldn't expect on a cruise. Just a heads-up: These popular shows fill up fast, so you'll want to get there early to grab a good seat!
Virgin Voyages totally flips the script on cruise dining. Instead of huge main dining rooms and traditional buffets, you get over 20 specialized restaurants, and every single one is included in your fare. This means a much more personalized and refined eating experience, but it also means you'll need a game plan: Definitely make reservations for the spots you really want to try. Sometimes you can snag a walk-in table, but using the app to book ahead is smart, especially when the ship's full. Our absolute favorite was Extra Virgin, which served up fresh, handmade Italian pasta in a cozy, family-style setting (and that build-your-own affogato station? Genius!). Pink Agave was another winner, with its stylish, fun vibe and incredibly flavorful Mexican dishes that had just the right amount of kick. They've got tons of options for both vegetarians and meat lovers, too. Oh, and the food hall-style setup instead of a classic buffet? It’s brilliant—everything feels fresh and nobody's touching your food before you get to it, which is a huge bonus.
The "Western Caribbean Charm" itinerary was fantastic, giving us a perfect blend of busy port days and lazy sea days. There was plenty of time to really unwind and still get out and explore new places. In Roatán, the port itself is nice, but if you want to hit the beaches, you'll need a ride. So, we'd definitely recommend booking a shore excursion that includes beach chairs and umbrellas—it just makes things so much easier. Some of our friends did an ATV excursion; they said the bus ride was long, but the ATV part was totally worth it! Costa Maya was a great surprise with lots to do right in port, including a captivating performance by the "Danza de los Voladores" (the Dance of the Flyers), which was such a cool cultural experience. We also did a "Salsa & Salsa" shore excursion, where we learned to make three kinds of authentic salsa (avocado, hot tequila, and a classic red) before trying out some salsa dancing. Our hosts were charming and fun, making sure everyone had an amazing time.
And let me tell you about the Beach Club at Bimini—it’s an absolute dream. If you want the chairs closest to the water, you’ll want to be among the first people off the ship. We waited about an hour and still found two chairs in the second row, which was great. Later, when we tried to move to the pool, finding two chairs together was a much bigger challenge! The food there, especially the honey jerk chicken, was incredibly delicious and, best of all, totally included! In the afternoon, the Happening Cast (the awesome entertainers from the ship) threw this epic pool party with dancing, fun floaties, and just so. much. fun. It was an amazing way to end our week.
Virgin Voyages has this super fun, sassy, and outgoing vibe, but honestly, there’s truly something for everyone. Now, if you're easily offended, this probably isn't the cruise for you. But if you're active and looking for fun ways to work out and explore, a beachy person who loves relaxing by the pool and discovering new shores, a foodie eager to try new flavors both on and off the ship, or an entertainment guru who loves amazing shows, live music, and dancing... then you are going to absolutely love this ship!
Need to know
To really make the most of your Virgin Voyages trip, a few insider tips will make your journey even better.
First off, download the Virgin Voyages app as soon as you book. It's basically your personal assistant for everything: checking in, snagging those crucial dining reservations (seriously, the best spots go fast!), and booking your seats for popular shows and fitness classes. While you might get lucky with a walk-in, pre-booking is the way to go to make sure you hit all your must-dos without waiting in lines.
When it comes to unforgettable moments, these are the "must-dos" you absolutely shouldn't miss:
Scarlet Night Celebration: Get ready to wear your best red outfit (the bolder, the better!). This is a ship-wide party all about love, with special decoration stations where you can get glam with other sailors, live entertainment everywhere, and the grand finale: a deck party where everyone's invited to dance right in the pool! It's such a unique and fun experience.
Karaoke hosted by the Happening Cast: Forget everything you think you know about cruise karaoke. The Scarlet Lady's Happening Cast makes this so much fun, with an incredibly supportive and encouraging atmosphere. It really brings everyone together and captures that amazing cruising camaraderie. Trust me, you'll wish you did it more!
Beach Club at Bimini Pool Party: This afternoon party at the pool is just overwhelmingly fun! Even if you don't jump in, the music, dancers, and vibrant energy are infectious. Just remember my earlier tip: If you want the best chairs closest to the beach or pool, try to be one of the first few groups off the ship. Otherwise, you might be searching a bit for a spot.
Oh, and a big bonus: All those "always included" perks (like Wi-Fi, tips and gratuities, all dining, soda and water, and fitness classes and entertainment) really make a difference. It means you can just relax and enjoy without worrying about extra charges popping up everywhere. Embrace the ship's playful, adult vibe, and you're in for a vacation that perfectly blends relaxation with exhilarating adventure!
