Curator’s statement
From the moment I arrived at Phum Baitang, I felt like I had been dropped into a Cambodian dreamscape. With its name meaning “green village,” the property captures everything I love about travel — authenticity, aesthetic harmony, and soul-soothing quiet.

Why I recommend it
This is not your typical Siem Reap resort. Instead of polished marble and air-conditioned lobbies, Phum Baitang invites you into a refined rural fantasy: 45 stilted villas inspired by traditional Khmer homes, nestled among palm trees and rice paddies that sway gently in the breeze.
I stayed in a Pool Villa, where the minimalist interiors — all raw wood, handwoven textiles, and soft light — offered a perfect contrast to the lush, wild nature outside. One of my favorite moments? Watching the sun set from my private terrace while listening to the low hum of cicadas and the distant clatter of ox carts. It was the kind of stillness you don’t know you need until you find it.

Insider tips
Room pick: Choose a Pool Villa for complete privacy and lush garden views. The plunge pool is a lifesaver after long, hot temple days.
Sunset ritual: Head to the outdoor cigar and cocktail lounge just before dusk. Order the Kampot pepper negroni — a spicy twist on the classic — and settle in as the sky turns to fire over the rice fields.
Temple touring: Ask the team to arrange a private tuk tuk at sunrise to Angkor Wat. The hotel works with amazing local guides who bypass the crowds and focus on hidden corners and personal storytelling.
Wellness moment: The spa, set in a 100-year-old farmhouse, is reason enough to stay here. Their Khmer herbal compress massage left me floating.

Who it's perfect for
Design lovers, honeymooners, and travelers seeking understated luxury with deep cultural immersion. This is not a place for glitzy nightlife — it’s where you come to recharge and reconnect.
Final thought
Zannier Phum Baitang is more than a hotel — it’s a beautifully composed love letter to Cambodian heritage and nature. Every detail is intentional, every moment meaningful. It’s the kind of place that quietly transforms your idea of what luxury can be.
Need to know
Siem Reap’s dry season runs from November to March—ideal for exploring the temples in comfort. The resort is just 15 minutes from Angkor Wat, but feels totally secluded. Private guides through the hotel are highly recommended for a more meaningful experience. Don’t forget to pack light, breathable clothing and sun protection—the midday heat can be intense, especially during temple visits.
Insider tip
Book a sunrise visit to Angkor Wat followed by breakfast back at the resort—it’s the best way to avoid crowds and the heat. Also, don’t miss a sunset cocktail at the cigar lounge overlooking the rice fields—it’s one of the most peaceful moments of the day.
