From the minute we arrived at Grand Forest Metsovo in Northern Greece in early September, I was utterly enchanted. Nestled in the heart of the Pindus Mountains, this luxury resort offers a perfect blend of traditional Greek charm and modern elegance. Lush pine trees, crystal clear lakes, and stunning mountain landscapes surround the property, providing a sense of relaxation and serenity, while the interiors are warm and inviting.

One of my favorite aspects of the hotel was the seamless integration of local culture and tradition into the guest experience. We were welcomed with typical Greek hospitality, feeling as though we were visiting a friend's home rather than checking into a hotel, and the resort's design and architecture reflect the region's heritage. The rooms and suites are cozy and tastefully decorated, offering breathtaking views of the Metsovo landscape. You can even see the nearby town of Metsovo across the valley, a shock of red-roofed buildings popping out from the thick pine trees along the side of the mountain. Dining at the resort's restaurant was a culinary treat, with authentic Greek cuisine that highlighted the finest local ingredients. I met with the head chef, who aims to bring a modern twist to seasonal Greek dishes, and introduced me to some of my new favorite meals!

For guests looking to unwind and relax, the amenities at Grand Forest Metsovo are top-notch. Not only is there a beautiful outdoor infinity pool, there's a heated, indoor lap pool connected to the spa. Guests can reserve time slots during the day to make private use of the pool themselves, or can join other pool-goers in the evenings when it's open to all. The Fontus Spa is the epitome of tranquility and wellbeing. With a number of unique treatments, you'll be able to indulge in every sense after you spend some time in the pool and jacuzzi. Their Grand Forest Signature Journey was the most relaxing 90 minutes of my life -- I barely knew what the word "stress" meant after that! You can take advantage of the steam room, sauna, and hammam, as well as beauty salon in case you feel like primping. I spent my evening, post-massage, watching the sun set over the mountains from the top floor lounge with a warm drink in hand, feeling utterly relaxed.

There's plenty to do at the hotel, but if you're looking for unique experiences, the team at Grand Forest Metsovo has a treat for you. Beyond hiking on their own private trails and visiting the nearby towns of Metsovo and Meteora (a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 1.5 hours away), you can go horseback riding, e-biking around those crystal clear lakes, canyoning, skiing, and more. My favorite experience is the Wild Truffle Hunting with a local truffle expert, Katarina, and her truffle-hunting pups. Wander the woods and gather your fill, and then head back to her riverside farmhouse to do a truffle-focused cooking class where you'll learn authentic Greek truffle dishes. Enjoy the fruits of your labor as lunch is served accompanied by local wines.

Grand Forest Metsovo is the perfect choice for a luxurious, unique, and private retreat. It's well-suited for honeymooners, couples celebrating a special occasion, or anyone looking for a serene escape into the natural beauty of Northern Greece at any season (though I've heard Christmas is magical -- it's so cozy and festive!). Families will also love it here, and there's a Kid's Club on the property as well! Whether you're relaxing in the spa, sipping wine by the fireplace, or simply taking in the breathtaking views from your balcony, this resort offers an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of Northern Greece.

My stay at the Grand Forest Metsovo was a true escape from the ordinary. The property's dedication to preserving the region's cultural heritage while providing top-notch luxury is evident in every detail. For those who appreciate nature, culture, and the finer things in life, this destination is a hidden gem in the heart of Northern Greece.

Need to Know

Grand Forest Metsovo is located in the Pindus Mountains, and it's best to have a car so you can explore the surrounding areas at your leisure. However, the team can help coordinate airport transfers, and if you're looking for ultimate relaxation, there's no need to even leave the premises! There's more than enough to do and enjoy on site.
