Hilton Universal City Review: Best Hotel Near Universal Studios Hollywood
Curator’s statement

We stayed at Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City for a quick two-night family trip focused on visiting Universal Studios Hollywood. For this type of trip, location and ease matter more than anything else, and that is exactly where this hotel delivers. This is a practical, comfortable option for families who want to stay close to the park without overcomplicating logistics. If your goal is to maximize park time and minimize stress, this property does its job well.

We booked a one-king Executive-floor corner room with a Universal view and sleeper sofa, and this room type made a noticeable difference in the overall experience. Traveling as a family of three, space can quickly become an issue, especially when using a pullout sofa. In this case, the corner layout gave us enough square footage that, even with the sofa bed fully opened, the room still felt functional and easy to move around in. This is not something I would assume in a standard room category here, so the upgrade is worth considering if you need the extra space.

The bathroom setup was also more practical than expected. It was larger than typical for this category of hotel, and the separate vanity area ended up being one of the most useful features of the room. Having that additional space to get ready, especially when multiple people are sharing the room, made a real difference in how smoothly mornings went before heading to the park.

One area that was not well executed was the breakfast inclusion tied to this room type. The room includes continental breakfast for registered adults, but this was not clearly explained during check-in. When we arrived at the buffet, we were initially told we would need to pay, and it required clarification before it was adjusted. It ultimately worked out, but the process was confusing and is something I would proactively confirm upon arrival to avoid any friction.

From a logistics standpoint, this hotel does exactly what it needs to do. The proximity to Universal Studios Hollywood is the biggest advantage and the main reason to stay here. While it is technically walkable, we chose to use the complimentary shuttle, which runs approximately every 20 minutes. The pickup is directly in front of the hotel, and the drop-off point at CityWalk places you right near the entrance to security, which makes getting into the park very straightforward. The shuttle does make an additional stop at a nearby hotel, but overall it is efficient and easy to use.

Dining on site was the weakest part of the experience. During our stay, options were limited, and when we had lunch at the hotel, only the bar and lounge area was open. There was one staff member covering both bar service and food, which resulted in longer wait times than expected. The food itself was good once it arrived, but this is not a property I would rely on for dining. It works in a pinch, but most travelers will likely find themselves eating at CityWalk or inside the park instead.

Overall, this is a clean, reliable hotel that is designed to support a very specific type of trip. It is not a destination hotel, and it does not try to be. What it does well is make a Universal Studios trip easier, and for many families, that is exactly what matters most.
