From Market to Blanket: A Paris Picnic How-To
Curator’s statement

One of the most quintessential things you can do on your trip to Paris is have a picnic by the Eiffel Tower. Just steps from this iconic Iron Lady is Rue Cler: one of the city’s most charming market streets. It's lined with specialty shops, fresh produce stands, and inviting cafés. It’s the perfect place to gather everything needed for a classic Parisian picnic. Shop like a true local and then walk to the Champ de Mars to enjoy your goodies.

Five steps to gathering your picnic supplies

Step 1: First, begin at Au Bon Jardinier Grenelle. This is a produce stand with some of the freshest fruits you have ever had. We chose strawberries and they were sweet and delicious.

Step 2: Second, walk along to La Fromagerie to choose your cheese. We chose a soft cheese (similar to a Brie) and a hard cheese called Comte. Tip: If you tell them you are having a picnic, they will slice your cheese into smaller pieces.

Step 3: A few steps away, you will find Boucherie du Perche for your sliced meats. The day we were there, they had an outside kiosk with many hot to-go items. We choose a mini chicken Cordon bleu.

Step 4: Nicolas is a wine cave on Rue Cler. If you tell them all of the things you have gathered, they will pair the perfect bottle of wine for you.

Step 5: Don't forget the baguette! Wrap up your shopping trip with a visit to Maison Julien Les Saveurs de Cler.

Once you have gathered all of your needed items, walk to Champ de Mars, lay out your blanket, and enjoy your meal!

Need to know

Things to pack in your suitcase to ensure a perfect picnic: a shopping tote bag, a blanket, takeout silverware packets, bags or containers for leftovers, and a winged corkscrew (wine openers with a blade are not allowed through TSA).
